for all wondering max has kindly given me a far better chassis for my c60l. Mine has quite severe rust at joins and gusseting and along lower chassis rails from years as a bushfire truck

The chap pictured with the crank,shows the proper way to rip his thumb off when the old Ford kicks back..The thumb should be positioned on the same side of the handle as the fingers while cranking the engine over..

That chap is none other than Hugh Thompson, Jan's illustrious dad, and yes, I agree - I've seen even a tired V8 kick back savagely - it happened to my brother, caught him along the leg and opened it up nicely.

My C60L Pattern 12 has the same plate and I have been wondering what it's purpose is? Can anybody shed some light on it.

this was the weekend project
thought it will save a bit of injury and profanity
will be disassembled later and erected in the shed
just a couple of cross braces to go

still waiting for carrier to bring chassis so in the mean time i thought it was about time i built a custom hoist
I made it taller and heavier so it actually goes over a blitz motor !

recently acquired and came in 2 pieces
just needs a bit more tidy up , clean and paint

Phil do you think it could have been used to help surport the back of the cab to stop the them from cracking above the doors.

I don't think so because there is not connection to the back of the cab and I don't think it extends up far enough to pick up the back lip channel of the cab.

I suspect that it is part of a spair tire or tool box bracket but have never come across a picture that would explain it.

the one that was here did have a piece of timber bolted to it and the timber was hard up against the back of the cab but I wasn't sure if the timber was an add on or not after the war.
You could be right about the tool box bracket, wiil have to look at the old pictures in more detail in the future

its been a busy day today
my c15a also finally arrived today
got a few bad points but also a few good ones too
overall happy with it
could have knocked me over with a feather when it showed up and spark plugs are out -then i put crank handle in and it spun FREELY

Looks like a nice straight little truck - be interested in data plate info if any and chassis number.

keith -it is fairly straight with not a lot of rust .they have cut radiator shroud a bit presumably to put different radiator in. also put a patch over sunshine roof with a LOT of 5/16 bolts -quite a few hours patching there

Unfortunately I don't have a decoder for the body plates some of the specialised bodies such as gun tractor had that stamped, but you'll find the chassis number stamped on the left chassis rail just aft of the front spring hanger.

With that holden plate it is located in the nose cone so im wondering if the W/O FRT END just means front end ?
maybe they just made up large batches and assembled on whichever body style

WO FRT END means War Office Front End as distinct from the conventional pattern trucks of the era.

How many different variants or body styles did they have on a c15a ?

Most of the Australian production were variations of the type 1 wooden or type 2 steel GS type bodies which included Battery Staff and office, then there were the Wireless Signals. The C15 had the same range and also the 6 seat utility, which was only on the 4X2 chassis.

This is an improvement made because of the lessons learned in North Africa to try improve the life expectancy of the generator, it was discussed at the CMP 84 conference as being part of a group of improvements to filtering on the crankcase, and transfer case. Problem with generator was that the brushes and armatures were wearing fast because of dust being drawn through the generator.
