Floor is in good shape......
Hi Jacek
Can you measure the distance between the edge of the inner fender to the edge of the engine cover in centimeter. I have found two different floor plate and different inner fenders on the cab 11 and cab 12 and I have no explanation why the difference. It seems that some early cab 11 models had a narrower foot area than later cab 12 models but then I found some cab 12 with the same narrowed foot space. It also means that the inner fender is more bulbous as it protrudes more into the pass. and driver's floor area. The inner fender on these models have notches cut in them to allow to clear the spring hangers...... I beleive that there is at least 30 cm differences. Here is your picture with the area I would like you to measure. Anybody else care to comment on the differences..... Thanks PS having problems attaching pictures

The 2 wheel drive and four wheel drives are what makes the difference. The two wheelers turn sharper so need more fender space.

How come.....
We find these narrow floor plates on 4X4......
Hi David All my observations have been on the 4x4 models of cab 11 and cab 12...? It really makes the space for your feet very tight, Bob Here is the picture I was trying to send Jacek

The arch frames are different on the two to four wheelers too.
My cab 11s are all two wheel drives.

Had another look.
David you are right....... Jacek cab 11 is an early one with not air wents and his a 2 WHEEL drive
Now I have 2 of my C15a cab 12 with the narrow floor plates and deep recessed inner fenders....three other cab 12 have the wider floor plate like my cab 11 How come...? the arches are the same..... the only difference I have noticed so far are the inner fenders and floor plates....rest is interchangeable...I think !! I think I have seen the same with Cab 13's.....some inner fenders have a larger "bulge" than others. David's explanation of 4x2 vs. 4x4 makes sence!
Jacek; your floor plate seems to be in good condition. No rot from the wooden spacers so it seems (?). Also interesting to see the different types of thread plate used; something we have seen on the forum before. Alex

Why???
Alex
Why do we find the 2 wheel drive inner fenders and floor plates on the 4x4?????? Part shortages...... liquidation of remaining stock in late cab 12 production..... what was available in the parts bin at GM on a late Friday afternoon....????? After all we have seen late 1944 C60 cab 13 Aussie contract trucks, left in Canada, built with early rectangular instrument clusters and two weeks prior build with round gauges....... Do you think they did it on purpose to confuse eventual collectors ???? Corn phused!!! BooB

According to Chevrolet Parts List No. 197, dated August 1942, the "deep contour" floor heel plates were used on all Chev CMPs from 8cwt to 60 cwt, 2 and 4 wheel drive, including the gun tractor, before serial number 184-05003. Similarly, the "shallow contour" plates were used on all 2 and 4 wheel drive from 15 to 60 cwt and the gun tractor starting at serial 184-05003. The only difference in models is that the 8 cwt isn't mentioned for the later "shallow contour" plates, possibly because production wasn't planned to go much further (but this is only a guess on my part, when did 8 cwt production end?)

Maybe.....
That implies that all early cab 11 fabricated before the cab 12 would have the deep dish contour plate..... yet my cab 11 has the shallow inner fenders and so do some of my cab 12......?
I honestly think they did it on purpose so confused later generations. Duh!!!!!!

The C8 from Gord measures at 7 3/4 in on one side and 8 inches on the driver's side.
Will get measurements and photos of mine this weekend. Cheers

bits
When I was assembling the cab 11 C8 cab, I found a few rough and ready discrepancies . The drivers side arch bar was twisted , this caused the wing to sit up a a strange angle .
The other thing was, the panel under the same arch bar had been banged with a mallet a few times to make it fit in place. There was no evidence of any accident damage to any other parts eg chassis . I reckon this ad hoc fitting was done at the factory - it took them a while to work things out . I believe I have a May 1940 made C8 , going by the research I did .

Floor stats from 8 trucks
I have access to 7 cab 12 circa 41 and 42 and one cab 11 circa 1940
6 of them have the shallow inner fender with the floor plate measuring 9 in. and that includes my cab 11. All are Chevys and all C15a. That leaves me with two odd balls with the deep recess inner fenders at 7 3/4 in. floor plates. One is a cab 12 from a Marina in Gananoque the other the remains of a cab 12 that was dismantled at CC2 the second gathering of the Caldswell. I eventually salvaged the rolling chassis and some sheet metal from Don ( last name???) who lived at the time in Hamilton. Both these vehicles had the strange looking inner fenders with even less toe room. Here are some photos of the inner fender seen from underneath the fender. ...and one that shows where the elusive little spring fits to support the flex brake line.

Upper part of the cab is fixed. Today we removed floor plates. Wooden spacers which were under it are in quite good shape after all these years. Any idea what is part marked with arrow for ?

Jacek, the arrow is pointing to the bolt that the grab handle attaches to.

Hi Jacek
You have the narrow floor plates with the deeper inner fenders. Seems typical of the 2 wheel drive but still can't explain why it is also found on 4 wheel drive cab 12. Certainly makes it harder to drive with big boots. Cheers

One of wooden spacers was charred that was why it was broken. I wonder how it happened, no electric instalation close to it. I made two new ones. Interesting that hole which held bolt attaching rifle holder to the floor was threaded and wasn't secured with the nut.

Wonder if.....
Hi Jacek
Two possibilities on the blackened wood spacer....... You truck did see some action.... are there any discoloration of the metal it was touching..? ....or some years of slow decay of the wood may looked like it burned but only a slow process with the tannic acid of the wood. On your truck, like mine.... a lot of the machined screws that hold the engine cover and rifle holders were actually threaded into the 3/16 ( 6mm) floor plates. Working on these old trucks is a constant learning journey. Cheers
