Just for people who live or have been to Adelaide, here is what happened to the skycycles before they tore down magic mountain. (THEY LIVE ON IN MY FRONT YARD). I know its a strange thing to have in your front yard, but the mountain would have attracted too much attention

Colin if you decide its for sale can I have first go at it?
As far as my limited knowledge goes, 37mm guns were the main armnament of the Stewart (or Honey) tank. Second they were a trailed (field ) gun like your 25 pounder. And thirdly they were the gun mounted on the 3/4 ton Dodge 4 x 4 wc55 or correctly the ""37mm gun motor carriage m6" (see the significance to me at the bottom of my posts) There are a variety of 37mm guns, and the ones I have spoken about are all (I believe to be M4) the others have a smaller shell, and I know nothing of them. Hope that helps. If you post something about it in the Gun Park forum you'll pick up heaps of info, I'm guessing. By the way I'll be in Pucka at the end of next month. How far away are you? Cheers, Lynn.

Pedr, I have to say that when I asked, I couldn't remember where Colin was. (when you scroll down during a reply, you don't get all the details) Anyhow, I figured out after, that Adelaide is a fair walk from Puckapunyal.
Cheers. ps. I hope Colin's not lost now.

Lynn,
37mm guns were also found on M3 Lee/Grants tanks as well as the M3 Stuarts you mentioned. And Australia had plenty of both. |

I cannot agree that your airplane is a Devon.
Devons were never used by any air force I believe, and they also came with four engines, and the early ones had fixed under carrages. Dove was a lovely little airplane to fly. regards Col

Hi Col, There was about 540 doves built. There was a standard commercial model for 8-11 passengers. also variants for survey, pest control, executive and ambulance. There were also Devon C.1 and Sea Devon C20 Light communication roles with the RAF and the Royal Navy. The devon was fitted with the gipsy Queen engine standard 340 hp. My aircraft is a series 5, 380hp mark 2 Gipsy Queen engines. It had a 20% increase in payload and had a range of 800km. The 4 engine dove you mention is a herron. I don't mean to be rude at all, but the information is easily obtainable. I also have the log books somewhere.
Regards. Colin. |
