Dave,

We would need more info as to what unit, when and were. Also as far as I know there is no such thing as the Canadian Carrier regt.

You should take a look at Barry Bedlams Armoured Acorn site. He has done a ton of research on paint schemes for Cdn and brit vehicles. Here is the link for his Cdn artwork. There is a bunch of stuff on carriers posted. Enjoy. http://www.armouredacorn.com/Reference/CVM/Default.htm

thanks jordon.
im talking about THE carrier rgt, the one with the kangaroos, and rams. looking for what was on the front fenders. normaly my carrier is decked out as one from arnherm from the 1st ABN. but we are having a late war battle and would like to do something diffrent and may give some GIs a lift as a taxi. so i might as well put on the black beret with the kangaroo cap badge.
any clearer?
sorry about the confusion
dave

You mean the 1st Cdn Armoured Personal Carrier Regt. I don't think they had any UC. They woudl have just been Rams and trucks. Maybe Geoff or another forum member would know better.

To the best of my knowledge, the 1st Canadian Armoured Carrier Regiment had NO carriers, just jeeps, trucks of various sorts, and of course, Ram Kangaroos. Having said that, I'm at work away from any documentation, so if anyone else can confirm or refute this in the interim, I'd be pleased.

FWIW, if they did have the odd carrier (more than likely scrounged in the nefarious Canadian tradition ), it would NOT have been used for troop lifts, any more than would a jeep or a 15cwt.

Default No UC's in the 1CACR

Geoff is correct. The "Kangaroos" did not use Universal Carriers. They are not part of their WE. In all the documentaion I have from the various Squadrons, LAD and Sigs Troop there is no mention of UC's at all.

They did scrounge vehicles, but mostly trucks and cars and motorcycles (both alllied and German) they scrounged lots of vehicle parts. Of the photos I have or have seen of scrounged material there are no UC's to be seen anywhere.

Sorry, but from all the stuff I've seen, I'd have to say they didn't use them at all.

Bill

Post Re: Use of Universal Carriers by 1 CACR

Hi Dave;

I can confirm what both Geoff and Bill have said. 1 CACR had NO UCs on their WE nor did they carry any surplus to their war establishment or operate any from 24 Oct 44 to 20 Jun 45.

Cheers

(P.S. I am the author of the book 'THE KANGAROO IN CANADIAN SERVICE' in the Canada Weapons of War Series published by Service Publications; Ottawa, Ontario, Canada)
