Default British No4Mk1 Wood Proof Mark

Hi All,

I just purchased a complete British Walnut (so it was advertised on ebay) Stock-set for a Lee-Enfield .303 British No4Mk1 rifle with all the metal bands, sight guard, sling and Bolt-Head tool. This Stock-set is in excellent+++ condition; and appers to have been on a rifle before. I just picked it up at the Post Office on April 7th.

There is one proof mark on the Butt Stock, on the bottom face next to the tab that inserts into the Butt Socket, that I can't find any reference to this proof mark anywhere. I even have a fellow Lee-Enfield gun collector from Moncton, N.B. looking for the origin and/or meaning of this proof mark. He doesn't know what it is either.

This Proof Mark looks to be about the same size of a Savage Boxed Square "S". Except inside the squre is a capital "P". Does anyone here know the meaning and/or origin of this marking on the wood. If possible, please give your sources in obtaining this info.

Thanks for your help.
