7.00-16 Tire Sources?
Looking for options for 7.00-16 NDCC tires for my M38A1.
Seems like a lot of tire supply for mvs has dried up, I can always go Stateside but would rather get something here in Ontario. Seeking 5 tires.

Go to the US. You can get the tires off Ebay for $104 each, and get them shipped to the border. If you can find a tire dealer on the US side that sells STA brand, get them brought up that way...same price. Or if you know someone going to the MVCC convention this summer, get them to pick them up from Wallace Wade. His prices are just as good, and he always has extra stock at the convention.
I believe there is a distributor in Montreal that brings in STA tires, but at 3 times the list price. |

Summit Racing also sells Coker "Firestone" 7.00x16" NDCCs. These are what I put on my M151A2. I took Robs advice and had mine shipped to the Border and picked them up. 4 were a little over $550 including shipping. Can't beat that really.

When you say "shipped to the border", what are you using as a ship to address? I thought I heard of one guy using an UPS store for this in Niagara Falls or Buffalo USA.

For my purposes, there is a guy who has set up a business 3 miles on the other side of the border just to receive parcels and pallets for us Canadians. He charges $5 for the first parcel, $3 for each additional parcel, $10 if the parcel is over 50 pounds, or $20 if he has to use his forklift for it, with a max of 2000 pounds. When you compare with shipping the stuff up to Canada by any other means, there is often a savings of $100 on each parcel. It is great for ebay and Amazon purchases, as well as auto parts from some of the on-line distributors down there.
The guy I use was using his garage two years ago. Now he has put up a heated building, and even it is jammed to the corners. Many of the commercial importers around here of products like auto speed accessories are using his place as a regular drop-off. And since he is a business, I can get the commercial rates for the shipping in the US as well, vice the residential rates. These places are sprouting up at almost any border crossing as a result of online purchasing. Google for something at whatever crossing you use, and something will come up. Apparently some of the UPS stores will receive pallets of tires as well. Check with the Ottawa guys on that one: didn't they use UPS for those new chevron 10.50X16s a couple years ago? |

Rob, You can get the STA tires from Markus and willys acres...I got my 600x16 from him and had em shipped down this way by Acadian lines bus route, little under 100.00 per tire about 3 years ago.

We us UPS.....
The barn gentlemen ...... who am I kidding..
I maintain a UPS box in Ogdensburg NY...... about $110 per 6 months..... has saved us many times over what we pay in rental for the box. UPS is always full of tires in the back room.....however...unless they have changed they are not equipped to load and unload with a fork lift.... most tires I have seen are shipped and wrapped individually. On 4 tires it might not cost a lot more....but.... when we had 22 tires (10:50 x 16) shipped we took pity on the UPS crew and dealt with a warehouse which received the full skidded shipment. Wallace Wade even arranged for the 22 tires to be shipped directly from the Pennsylvania factory rather than form his warehouse in Texas.... very decent guy to deal with. The warehouse charged su $120 to handle the skid...... but the loading platform was meant for a large tractor trailer height and the forklift had no ramp to reach the paved lot...... so we cut the pastic wrap on the tires and individually loaded them onto the car trailer and tied them down with cargo straps. Our Canadian tires costed about $225 ( 4 years ago) each with shipping, money conversion and duty which is only PST/GST.... they now retail at $325 + - Be carefull and check the prices between the Vintage Canada in Hawkesbury and the USA price..... you can save on the shipping and save at least 30% mark up on overall price..... what they charge to bring it across the border and profit is ridiculous in my mind..... it is almost like getting the 5th spare tire free. When ordering the tires ask about the tubes and compare local Canadian prices........ farm tractor shops use 16 tires a lot on farm equipment. Hurry up while the Canadian dollar is doing good. I've been checking prices and it looks like there has been huge increases in tire prices lately...
And, not too many dealers here in Canada for military tires. I was able to find a network of border ship to places, for anyone interested look up shiptotheborder.com. Get a Kinek account and you have access to dozens of border points on the US side which will hold packages for up to 30 days. Most charge a small fee for each parcel weight dependant. Some locations have dock service and will accept skids as well and have weekend hours. The one I set up with for my account is in Buffalo NY at Storage Central and you can choose to have several ship to US adresses. All these places are part of a network of secure and bonded businesses. You get an individual code number which never changes that is used wherever you choose to ship your package to.
