Thank you Alex,

I will keep the lot informed, and i hope that will become the new owner.
It kind of stole my hearth...

Invasion star is indeed a bit strange, but it will get a repaint anyway to get it more authentic for Western Europe.

Rgds.

Here are some more before, during & after pictures of the same F8.

What is a "lengthened short box"?

Hello Sjoerd,

It is a nice truck, and fully restored as far as I know. I cannot give you a valuation as you know "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" and "an object is worth what a fool will pay". Now let me state for the record this truck is a beaut and you are no fool!

If you study the threads and pictures on this forum, you will notice relatively few Cab 11 and Cab 12 CMPs were used in NW Europe, and 8-cwt trucks were no longer used by frontline units. So chances this type of CMP was used in NW Europe are very slim. That's possibly why the owner painted it Light Stone, as the 8-cwt class of vehicle was extensively used during the desert war. In my opinion, if you paint over the Allied invasion star, one will have a very good representation of what this type of truck looked like during WW2. Plus it makes a nice change in seeing mainly olive drab vehicles at shows!

HTH,
Hanno

C8's/F8's cab 11 and early cab12 came with the 1A1 and 1A2 "short box". Later cab 12 C8's/F8's came with the 1B1/1B2 "long box".

Some short boxed trucks seemed to have been modified by streching the short box......there it is.....the "lengthened short box", As far as I know it's still not sure when this was done, why or by whom. Fact is that a number of trucks with these lengthened trucks survive in Canada. The lockers between box and cab were scrapped and fuel tanks moved to the sides of the frame rails.

I think the current consensus is that the conversion was done by the army when the Wireless trucks became obsolete (15cwt's took over the wireless role) They lengthened the box for cargo use and to stretch the service life of the 8cwt's.
So far I haven't seen any pics of these lenthened boxes in action in N-Africa or NWE which leads me to believe the conversion was done in the second half of WW2 for homeland use in Canada, but I have no evidence to back this up.

Thanks for sharing your findings, Alex. Helps me to scrub up my knowledge of Cab 11's and 12's.

As this F8 is a Cab 12, it could originally have been fitted with the "long box", right?

For me the question now is whether the replica box on the truck was copied from a "lengthened short box" or a "long box"?

Regards,
Hanno

F8 Cab12; so it could either have been fitted with a short box or a long box, depending if it's early or late. I presume this particluar one was fitted with a lenthened short box (everyone still there? ;-)), which they then reproduced because it was too bad to restore.

Copied from a "lengthened box".......as the design of the "long box" is different (sides look different with less ribs, front panel of box is shaped differently, rear panel is different as well).

Alex

Edit: Hier is a picture from the forum, showing David Moore's truck with 1b1 box "long box".

Ah yes, still here and all clear now

For comparison, here's a picture of a proper "short box"

Default CMPs for sale in Holland

Well, i didn't bought the truck. Not because there is anything wrong with the truck, it is really nice. The reason is that my legs are to long to reach the clutch pedal.....i felt very dissapointing and awkward towards the seller. This is something i've never expected, alltough i knew the early cabs are a bit small this i did not expect.

So, my search continues for a Commonwealth truck which fits in my garage and is nicely restored.

Thanks to everyone for their help and advice.

Rgds.

It means it can be partly dismantled to fit in a C47 cargo plane.

similar to the CCKW which splits?
Are there any pictures of this C60?
Or might it be the same one that was on ' Marktplaats' last year?
(with the canadian flag draped on it)

Default APT chev c60l

These Chevrolets are recognizable as is said that they can be dismantled partially, easy thing to recognize themis that the drivers side headlamp corner of the front end has bolts to the radiator side , so that the whole right hand front end can be taken of .
All the ones I have seen are made in August 1945 and later , so they probably never were applied with Canadian markings , French Navy got a lot , and Dutch coast guard.

Looks like a Bedford MWC tank, not CMP. CMP water tanks are oval shaped...without the flat sides. Also the door layout at the rear and filters are completely different.

Alex,

You are right of course.
I believe this one came off a CMP though, if so it must have been swapped during a rebuild.

It was released from French army in 1980 and dry stored at a collector since last year. It was never civilian registered and all original.
Everything was preserved for long term storage, waxed and sealed.
We did the wake up work on it, rebuilt the brakes, changed the fluids, replaced batteries.
This Chevrolet is really as original as it gets, never repainted.
The low mileage of 2000 miles is noticeable. It runs so quite and smooth, we never experienced this before. The patina is awesome and gives this vehicle an unique character.
Are you looking for something special, something that will not come by soon anymore for a decent price, grab your chance now.
