Default Plates, Mounting, No.1, ZA-10465

Is this WWII or post—WWII? Regardless, what would usually be mounted to it? I know it will take a No.8 or No.10 aerial base, because I had a No.8 on it for a short while. Thanks much.

Hi James,

It's WW2, and original equipment for the WS19 (the stores codes were allocated sequentially after the initial conversion to a numbered index pre-1940, so you can estimate the date of introduction from that).

It usually carries the variometer, an aerial base, and the operator's control unit. The arrangement of the holes is semi-symmetrical so that left and right handed setups are possible. (Mainly so you can have two sets side by side in a truck without the operators getting in each others way.)

The aerial base is so that the set can be used dismounted from the vehicle (Carrier No.25 is usual for that application) with a minimum of cable shuffling.

There's a waterproof cover for that application, with two holes for the aerial grommet - which one is used depends on the left or right handed layout, and the other hole has a blind grommet to keep the rain out.

Usual setup is variometer on the left, then aerial base, then a Control Unit No.2 - which the rest of the harness can be plugged into when in the vehicle.

The plate is also seen with the RF Amplifier, but just with the Aerial Tuning Inductance, Condenser X5 5kV, and an aerial base fitted.

Best regards,
Chris.

I still have not got around to finding the correct Aerial Base, James, but here is what my Mk II 19-Set looks like with all the other bitd for this configuration.

I had forgotten about that earlier thread, Patrick.

Perhaps Hanno can merge the two of them now under the correct ID?
