We used to have a thread "Wartime T16 pictures", but this seems to have gone missing. So here is another try.

First read A brief history of the T-16 Carrier on my website for background info. I wrote this article for Geoff W-B's The Carrier Platoon web site (now defunct) where it was originally published in 2001.

In 2004, I added the page The T-16 Carrier in use with the Canadian Army to my website.

Dutch civilians swarm over carriers of the Eighth Recce Unit in welcome as the Canadians move into a village near Beveland Canal. (Zuid-Beveland).
This photo was made at Wolphaartsdijk, 30 October 1944. I cannot see if these are T16 Carriers, but they are towing 6-pdr AT guns.

I suspect that the photograph is of infantry carriers as a reconnaissance regiment would not have had towed anti-tank guns in its establishment.

As Ron said, it’s in Nijmegen according to the commentary. Problem with this type of documentary is that one can never be sure if they use actual footage of the fights or battles they describe.

The Church and statue in the background should help in narrowing it down.....but no luck yet!

Is that an airborne 6 pounder that shows to the left of the carrier and 6 pdr?

On closer inspection of the photo and with guidance from an expert, the conclusion is this is not a T16 but a Windsor Carrier in service with "troops with the 11th Armoured Division moving off".



The Carrier in the photo has the first style sand shields and 6pdr blast shield folding mounting arms, so it is definitely a Windsor. No T16s were used by British units during WW2 in NWE.

How was the "blast shield" used......?

...and can we see more pictures of that weird looking T16 with the mud tracks?????? Loved reading the description of how it was electrically powered form a separate trailer....!!! and tested in 1938????

Hi Bob,
The electrically powered T16 carrier was made in Aug 1944 and had a max speed of 21mph.
The report has 51 pages with photos and diagrams, part of the report is in Nigel Watson book Universal Carriers Vol 3

I've read about his T16 with electric drive, interesting stuff.

T16 T94950 with an interesting field modification. This photo was made during the Memorial D-Day Parade at the Potterstraat street in Utrecht in June 1945. All the men and their equipment were clearly polished up for this event. During wartime service no doubt the rack fitted on the front glacis would be stowed to the brim with the crew's belongings.

If I identintified this correctly, this T16 belonged to The Highland Light Infantry of Canada (white 67 on brown) of the 3rd Canadian Infantry Division (gold maple leaf on French-grey) - ref. https://canadiansoldiers.com/vehicle...antryunits.htm
