Default Blitz's near me

all these blitz's are within 120Km of my place. Some will eventually be restored the others are keepsakes that will have to wait for the next genrtion to give them a chance, the rest are just doners but still unavailable as the owners may do something with them in the future.
First verry little left on this one.
Second in a yard in Wagga I haven't tracked owner down yet.
Third this one is near the Snowy Mountins/ Hume Hwy. intersction it is owned by a Tumut resident and is on long term loan as a fire unit.
There are more to come later 16 in total.

Fiest remains of a C60X in Tumut.
Second in a shed not far from me. This C60L with winch will be restored.
Third C60l owned by a Gilmore resident, this photo taken on Betty's property just before loading onto a truck. The owner is working on making it ino a spray rig.
Forth I photographed this Chev in Adelong working with a portable saw mill, it has now been sold to a Batlow resident.

Do you really think that I'd drive past that one twice a day & not check it out? This one has had a hard life! Chev C60L. Engine is seized & missing the rocker cover. Chassis has been cracked & welded, then cracked & welded, then cracked & welded, then..... you get the idea. The chassis is twisted. Window frames are rusted out. Front bumper & guards have had more hits than Elvis. Front wheels are CMP 20" tyres are buggered. rear wheels & tyres are civilian with a large offset & buggered.
On the plus side, the winch is still fitted.
It is for sale, $400. I have photos of the plates somewhere...

Default Blitz n pieces

Geez Robert you are becoming a semi-pro with the photos. They are all great.

Nice to see that there are trucks 'out there'

The C60X would be nice to see in a side view & close.

Batlow is home of the old car... a lot of back streets there contain some beautiful vehicles...

I have driven past a few of the 'sentinels' over the years.. There is one between Gunda & Adelong too.. There are a few farther East from you in Adaminaby...

No. three a F60L is in running condition and is owned by Tumut transport oprator.

Default Back again

I am only posting one shot of each blitz as I sent the rest to Keith and I don't want to steal all his thunder.
First in Batlow not much left and for personal reasons it's staying as is.
Second a much modified ford belonging too my neighbour David. It is fitted with a perkins P6 and only gets used on rare ocasions when something needs recovering with the winch.
Third owned by Jethro of Bago this is a Perth built C60S fitted with a 186 holden engine and is in regular use on his hobby farm.

Default BAtlow

Hi Robert

I spotted quite a few CMP's around your district . I was shown the Batlow fire brigade truck, a nice F60L , in good running order in the fire station, this was back in 1981. A half turn of the crank handle and it fired up...

The old codger at Laurel Hill had a variety of CMP's , many of them cab 12's in various states of completeness. His name was Woods or similar. Back in 1976, his yard had derelict CMP's in abundance. Just after the war he was selling Blitzs and other ex-army vehicles to the locals .. He was rather moody though, and probably bordering on being senile. On one occassion he threw me out , I still don't know why.He had a big nasty German sheperd dog that made entering the place , somewhat nerve racking. He told me there were two Guy Ant quads in the district at one time . I took a few pics of his yard .. I will find the negatives one day ! It was an old run down Shell garage.

This is another Batlow blitz, a F60L Modified original tray with spare tyre carrier mounted on top of tray and wheel arches flatened for carting apple bins. It is sheded but hasn't been started for seven or eight years. It is for sale he has $4000 wrien in chalk on the door.
Thats it until I find some more. I hope the Forestry has their restored fire truck out at apple blossem so I can snap it.

Sorry to butt in, but this seems a good a place as any to post pics of discoveries.

Turned up this crook old Ford. The most interesting thing of note is the pair of 25pdr wheels with 1939 dated tyres, and the moss-covered aircraft tyre fitted to the back with a small tree growing up through the chassis!

Yes, the rust has a good hold on that one. Nice to see a few goodies are still there such as the Ford badge, overflow tank and both doors (assuming they aren't too rusty).

Where is it?

Default odd bolts

Robert

You will find those bolts on most if not all Chrysler built vehicles . I think it refers to: Dodge Plymouth Chysler De Soto DPCD .

Kevin P. Is that him in the pic ?

What an eclectic assortment of markings .. you can see the U.S. blue drab number in there . That truck has been places .

Mike

The RAAF had a lot of WC series Dodge vehicles mainly the Command Car version. Below is some photos of the weapons carrier in RAAF service courtesy of the AWM & Pictures Australia. Most of the photos I have from this source are of RAAF Command Cars.

Now we are back in action can the experts give me information on the markings on Kevin's Dodge. Wich ones are keepers for the finished project? Does the date in blue mean anything? Thank you in advance Robert.

Kevin has nearly finished bolting pieces to the Dodge when he's finished it is going to a restorer. By the markings was this Dodge used by the USA during the war and RAAF after. Can any hisory be gleaned from the markings?

The Dodge would have been issued to the US Army and then given to the RAAF while the war was still on under Lend Lease terms or simply as an outright gift. I have seen Stuart Tanks with USA and Australian markings as well and the Shermans that came out for trials also carried two sets of markings. The RAAF seems to be the ones who had a larger number of these 3/4 ton WC series Dodges then the Army or Navy.

These sort of markings usually indicate overseas shipping.

Thank you Cliff & Keith. I was hoping that R T D
9 - 13 - 44
might have been significant.

Default Rtd

R.T.D. on my medical documents meant:

Returned to Duty.

Perhaps that Dodge had repairs done & was out of action.

There are five different scripts of stencil there. It would be nice to have a rule against the photos to get an accurate size of each one. If anyone has an original stencil sheet please PM me So I can get details. A photograph of it with inch rule next to it would be great.

Here's a Nice Rising Sun, Almost faded away...

I believe Ian to be right with his 'Returned To Duty' for RTD. The vehicle serial number should ID the year and if it is different to 9-13-44 then Ian and I are correct.

If the owner wants to restore it as an RAAF one then the white RAAF numbers and other markings are the ones to keep but I'd still record the US one's as the history of the vehicle from new may be able to be found using them. The Dodge Forum may be able to help. http://forum.ww2dodge.com/

To find something with this level of interesting stenciling intact is very special - I believe it would be worth a lot more in future for these to be preserved rather than obliterated in a repaint.
