CMP Gas Tank Sizes
There is a CMP tank available near here that is 48 inches long. It looks like it may be from a Cab 11 or 12 & is not in really great shape. Most 15 cwt & 60 cwt short trucks seem to have tanks that are only 32 inches long. It's not a HUP tank, could it be off a FAT or 60 cwt long??? Cud use some help here. Tks,
Bill Spence

FAT and C60X are listed in the "Vehicle Data Book" as having a total capacity of 42 gallons while most others are listed as 24 or 25 gallons. This isn't the same as the length ratio on the tanks you measured, so there must have been a cross section difference as well. They don't list a difference between 15 cwt, 30 cwt and short or long wb 60 cwt (except the C60X).
The AEDB design record gives most 15-60 cwt (including F60H) as 2x12.5 gal tanks, the FGT as 2x30 gal, the CGT as 2x20 gal , the F60T as 2x20.5 gal and the C60X as 2x20 gal. I suspect a typo on the FGT since it seems unlikely that Ford would make a 50% larger tank for their FAT when all other models have matching tank sizes. I'm scared to look for another source unless I find a third, different answer. It seems logical that the C60X with its larger engine and the FATs and F60T that would likely be more heavily loaded than the common trucks would be given larger fuel tanks to preserve a similar range between fills. |

Fuel tanks
The cab 13 gun tractors and C60X all had 2 X 21 gallon tanks.

48 inch CMP Gas Tank
Grant: Tks for info re my query re above. Sorry for taking so long to reply but a death in the family, plus my wife who is already in a nursing home coming down with the NOROVIRIS, plus being sick myself for a while, well you get the picture.
The full measurements on that tank are: 9 1/2" x 17" x 48". Maybe from these figures you can calculate the volume of the tank & determine what type of CMP it came off of. My mathematical skills are slim to nothing, so any calculations that I might do would almost certainly be wrong. Hope you can help me again. Many thanks, Bill Spence

calculation
Hi Bill,
well as I calculated it, it is around 127 liters. what I did is: highth times width times length. And then I converted your measurements to metric (centimeters) in imperial gallons it is around 28 gallons in US gallons it is around 33,5 gallons Cheers, Stefan |
