Shepards Crook clamp dimensions

Hi all, I want to make a crook clamp and have attached a drawing, I need to clarify if all the dimensions are correct, Nigel Ward has kindly supplied dimensions which i have interpreted into this drawing, he's away at the moment and i would like a second pair of eyes to check it over.......can any one offer any comments please?. It looks pretty good.
The 1/2 " dimension (top right) is actually the head of a 3/8" dia BSF countersunk screw, so it requires a 3/8" clearance hole, that is then countersunk.
The stud is also 3/8" BSF threaded, with a wing nut. From memory, the other end of the stud protrudes from the other side of the steel block, and is also threaded to take a 3/8" nut.
Does any of that help? I think there is a 3/4 dia. collar integral with the stud, at a guess, 3/8' thick. Does that work?

hi, thanks for the reply, everthing you have said is spot on but i think the coller is 7/8 inch as aposed to 3/4?????, the two holes in the front plate of the carrier were the block bolts to are a different size on my carrier, looking from the front the left one will take a 3/8 bolt but the right one appears to small, was

this tapped out to take a 3/8 counter sunk set screw with a locking bolt on the inside of the carrier????

The part # is CTL 7176, it is located on in the tool section of FUC 03 on page 374.

hi jordan, I made one to the drawing dimensions in the first post, one thing to note is that when you put it to use to clamp your crook, you need a fairly think thackery type spring washer between the wingnut and the bracket because when you tighten down the wings of the nut will foul on the bracket, i came apon an old style wingnut which was correct. I will try and dig out some photo's of an original bracket.

Would the wing nut be the same size as the wing nuts on the "Bren Gun" tripod holders on a mk1 carrier? 2 heavy springs are with these mounts, a Valve spring would work. Jim

I think the wingnut was a 3/8dia BSF one. It should be the same that was on the pick axe head bracket or the battery hold down bracket rods.

Does anyone have the capability to get these measurements?

I have to make this clamp. I can do it easy enough from photos but I need a few measurements in order to set the photo's scale properly. Once I do that the rest is easy.

Maybe I missed it, but I don't see the opening width dimension in Kevin's drawing, so mine measures 34mm (yes it is original)
Skip, make the stud longer than the photo.

Skip your guesses are correct. All BSF of course.
A= 34mm. B= 3/8". Stud protrudes 7/8" (mine goes on side armour)
If you make the collar as high as the lowest point of the sides (make sense?) you will be pretty close.

on the Ford Canada block, clamping, TL 12851 to fit the glacis plate, the one I measured had a lower portion of the 3/8 “ dia stud extends 5/8” below the block, the upper is 2” above the block. You will not find this part number in the Ford Canada parts books. .

Note the second bolt size: on the Canadian production, 1/4” x 7/8”.

Having had the opportunity to learn about the difference with the brackets from the original Bren carrier, there are slight differences in bolt lengths and size, ie 5/16” vs 1/4”. Thank you Lynn.

I actually haven’t started making this part yet except for laying it out electronically using Adobe Illustrator. I can then print on manilla paper and make a pattern. As all of you know, measurements are crucial to getting it right so thank you all for your time and your generosity!

All of the above measurements will be utilized! If I have questions I will speak up!
