Default Replica German Armored Car Plans

Does anyone on the forum know where I can get CAD drawings/plans of the SdKfz 222 for use in the construction of a replica.

I have seen quite a few of the replicas on the net so I presume someone would have created CAD drawings and build information on these vehicles

Have a look here: http://hmvf.co.uk/forumvb/showthread...plica-sdkfz222
I think you have to look at model kit builder to get drawings

Default 3D plans

I saw something on the internet which may help. There is an outfit which has done a 3D model of this car and they sell some kind of download of the drawing. Maybe this would help http://gunpoint-3d.com/model-Sdkfz222.html It is a complicated shape ,not easy to do.Another way is simply buy a Tamiya or Dragon Sdkfz 222 model in 1/35, assemble it, then very carefully measure it and then scale this up. Maybe you can do an actual floor, side walls, upper small side walls, then a partial top ,the correct width, then start using plywood to develop the templates for the rest. It`s a tricky shape

Thankyou Bob, much appreciated

It may be worth spending the $35 and downloading the high res graphics of the vehicle. It would certainly give me a good idea of detail etc.

The model suggestion also has merit. I will have to check out what models are available . Using the scaled up measurements and building a plywood mockup sounds like it may be the way to go.

Lots to think about on this one.

Default replicas

There seem to be a number of Landrover and Unimog based Sdkfz 222 ACs in Europe on the re-enacting circuit.

Have been kicking around a project for years to build a replica Humber Light Recce Car (or even an Otter LRC). While I have yet to get full measured drawings from an owner of a real one, I have some manuals from Bovington that show the plate cut outs. and **** The angles of the plates**** so they join properly for welding!!!

If you are going to make a replica AFV, a couple of points... You will want to make a full size mock-up in the same thickness of steel you plan to use so you can get an accurate cut.

You will probably want to be able to build the hull on a cradle so you can invert it to weld downward, instead of overhead. Mild steel is cheaper than armour plate and weighs a hair less.

Unless you can start with a real original chassis, Go with a modern engine and tranny to handle the weight and road speeds. If it is for reeancting, you ant it to run reliably and probably will never "pop the hood" to show the non-period stuff.

If you are serious about building a replica, PM me...
