17 Pounder Manual
Hi Guys!
I want to publicly acknowledge an incredible piece of kindness from one of our brethren on this forum: Wayne Henderson, a Gunner from Western Australia, recently mentioned that he had a 17 Pounder parts manual. I PM'd him explaining that we had one such artillery piece in the S&P Museum collection and that a copy of a parts manual would be great asset as we are disassembling the breech mechanism and are stuck on a tricky bit. Wayne copied his manual, stuffed it in an envelope, paid some hefty postage and it arrived from Oz last week; just in time to answer that tricky question and allow us to move on the the next step in the teardown! Wayne- THANK YOU! Maple syrup and beaver tails await you if you ever grace our snowy shores (come in the summer when there's less snow!) What a great bunch of people (Particularly the Gunners ) we have on this forum. Mike

Re Manual
Glad to help out other gunners with the same ideals as we downunderers.
Hope it helped and good to see (in true arty fashion) it arrived in time and in the right spot. |

17 Pounder Manual
Hi Gilles:
Kindness begets kindness. Normand and I are working together on his 17 pounder. I'll give him a copy directly. Ubique! Mike

I am also restoring a 17 pounder. It was displayed outdoors, so naturally any small parts that weren't welded on have been stolen. A parts manual would be of great help in fabricating replacements, both for the missing parts and those that have been mutilated by welding. It appears that a couple of copies have already made their way to Canada. If the quality is good enough that a copy-of-a-copy would still be usable, it might be simpler to acquire one from someone in Canada than to ship it from Oz. I'm assuming we're talking about a paper copy. If it's on disc, of course quality isn't an issue.
I would also be interested in purchasing any other literature on the 17 pounder, as well as any kit, dummy rounds or empty casings, etc. Also, if anyone has any literature or kit for the Bofors 37 mm anti-tank gun, I'm also looking for anything to do with it. |

Rob van meel in the netherlands has really good re-print 17 pdr parts manuals for sale.I bought one a few years ago and it is very useful.
www.robvanmeel.nl As for your project it seems we are both in the same boat so to speak my second 17 pdr had also stood on a range for many years being shot at and what with the weather playing its parts for 50 years its not a pretty sight !
