Default 1 inch webbing buckles.

Hi all,

Looking for these 2 styles of buckles please. Take off, NOS (or repro if they exist?). I`ve some NOS strap/with the later WW2 Willys style flatter buckles to trade if that helps.

Note 1 style is squarer and 1 style is rounder.

Ideally I need about 12 of each for my projects, but happy to take 1 here and 1 from there if that is all you have to offer.

Thanks in anticipation,
Ian.

Bump. Still looking for about 7 of the upper/squarer cast buckles and 5 of the lower 'rounder cast ones'.

Anyone have just 1 to sell? One at a time, i`ll slowly get there !

Cheers,
Ian.

Ian,

Beachwood Canvas supply the jeep canopy with the flat type buckles you are looking for, so the buckles must be available commercially from somewhere. Maybe see if Beachwood would supply you with them?

Other than that, I have three 2nd hand ones (flat type) here if you want to pay the post & pack to Aust? Or can you wait until someone visits from Oz, and can take them back with them for you?

Regards

Mike

I did a Google Image Search. Some sellers are calling that a 1" cinch lock buckle. Yes, you want a proper match, but if Beechwood is selling new canvas their supplier might also be in plain sight.

McMaster-Carr (my 'go-to' source for fasteners) have them:

https://www.mcmaster.com/webbing-buckles

They call them a 'slide bar' buckle. Available only as Nickel Plated from that source.

Default buckles

I have on loan a Willy's top with those lower type buckles, they appear to be made from bent wire, not cast. A skilled toolmaker could make the jig and dies for reproduction . The late ww2 style buckles are available from wee bee canvas ,

Thanks all for the offers and links.

Mike C- thank you for the suggestion and generous offer, but I shall keep hunting the cast originals. My current canvas top has the stamped type like Beechwood and Weebee sell (it's a Weebee top). There is a vast difference between the repro ones which mimic the late MB/GPW shape from these vendors and these original earlier ones. I`ll investigate what McMaster Carr is selling though!

maple_leaf_eh: Thanks too. i`l do some digging under that different search term which I hadn't used before.

Alex. Thank you too. I`ll follow up the vendor and see if they have the style i`m chasing!

Mike K- I had always called them wire buckles, but a few of them do have some casting marks on them, but i have also seen some which look very much like wire! Perhaps bending them up from wire and stripping reproduction ones for their stamped tooth slider is an option.... Hmmm!!! I`ll have a play as that might be an option for the 'wire' (lower in above picture) style.

Its been several years since I started looking. They turn up in dribs and drabs, one or two at a time... slow and steady!

Cheers all and thanks again,
Ian.

Hello Brian,

I`m sorry I never replied. I only just saw this post again.

Those straps, as brilliant as they are have a different buckle. They are using the later war/post war stamped buckle. Same basic design, but different manufacture.

Only after about 3 of the squared and 5 of the round/wire type now... getting closer!

Thanks again,
Ian.
