12 Pdr Naval Round Information
A little off topic but is there any reference material available to identify these rounds for the after 12 Pdr gun used on Canadian WW2 frigates? Type and colours would be great.

Two types visible
Bruce,
I don't have anything specific to the 12-pdr Naval Ordnance, but just looking at the images shows two different projectile types. Behind the dog in the sunlight are what appear to be shells - they have a removable fuze cap, so are probably HE with a percussion fuze. The projectiles in the shadows seem to be AP projectiles, possibly AP Capped. There were a variety of AP and APC projectiles available for Naval and Coast Defence use (ie against shipping) which were designed with the form of an AP projectile, but with an internal cavity for an HE filling. They were designed to hold together while penetrating armour before exploding. Not specific I know, but might help you to narrow down the exact round types. Mike |
