Default Strange You Should Ask

Hi Rob

I was just in process of writing a Tech Tip Article for local MV club newsletter on the subject Jack and Jack Stand Selection. Before I post what I've written I want to ask a question.

On what surface will you be jacking? Smooth floor, rough floor or out doors?

Cheers Phil

In the shop on smooth concrete floors, and occasionally on the firm gravel parking lot. I am looking to buy a high lift, and was looking for a recommendation.

Default Hi Lift Jack Recommendations

Hi Rob

Just tried to post the draft of the article, but it will not load because of a security issue with the photos and MLU software. Probably just as well because don't want to HiJack your thread in to a general discussion of jacks.

I suspect that what you are looking for is recommendation on jacks available in Canada that people have had good luck with. So will sit back and see what other people have found to work well. Will try and post article later, will try and private message you the tech tip I'm working on.

As to what I use, 2 ton roll around floor jack has been my primary shop jack for more than 15 years. Little on the small size. I supplement this when putting the big trucks up on jack stands with a 10 ton porta-power unit.

Cheers Phil

Default Found Name of the Jack I have

Hi Rob

Took me awhile to find the company that made my Floor Jack because it was made for NAPA and they now longer carry it. But after some looking I think it was actual is a HeinWerner Automotive Jack. The closest thing to it visually and dimensionally is Model HW93642 which is a two ton. But they also have a 3 Ton version Model HW93652

This one matches the dimensions of what I have, doesn't take up a lot of floor space and has done the job for me for more than 10 years.

Even with the 3 ton rated you will be picking the truck up a corner at a time and if you try and pickup the right rear to put a jack stand out under end of the axle you have to position the jack under the pumpkin and the jack tries to lift the entire tail of the vehicle (my 2 ton version is not happy doing this) but strangely if you pick up the left rear first and put that on a jack stand it is happy to pick up the right side.

Still hoping to hear/see what other people are using.

Cheers Phil

Just checked these are sold in Canada

Default ...at the barn...

We use a long reach hi rise floor jack rated at 3 tons on the concrete floor or outside with a 3/4 inch plywood sheet.

My overhead beams with rolling trucks can actually lift the whole front end and move the truck sideways.

for lifting and mov ing hulks around we use the 3 point hitch of the MF 255 with a pintle on the tractor short chain through the 2 D rings of the CMP and the truck behaves like a heavy trailer.

We make extensive use of floor jacks for safety..... having been crushed once with 4 ribs cracked ...... I tend to be careful.

Cheers
