Water bottles

Hi everyone, I have put this query in the carrier forum. but I guess it covers a few others besides, My question is,does anyone have a source of supply for the felt that is used to cover the Aust water bottles that are found in carriers and other vehicles, I will need quite a bit of it as I have a couple of dozen bottles that require recovering.

Have you tried Disposals stores for the Vietnam era individual blanket? It's not Felt, but a wool/nylon blend and the colour/texture is about right.

Sabre Sales in the UK used to have both British and Canadian Covers in stock. Quite what their current stock is I do not know.

British waters bottle covers were changed to a green felt during the 1930's whilst the Canadian's continued making the WW1 Tan colour. Not sure what the Austrailan pattern looks like.

Thanks for the information on Sabre sales I have sent them an E mail, do you happen to have a pic of a English water bottle that you can post so that I can get an idea of what the cover may look like, if you dont have a pic maybe annother one of our members could be good enough to supply a pic ?

I bought a couple of Aussie water bottle web holders some time ago, and they fit my NZ water bottles, (which may have come from anywhere in the commonwealth!)

The only other size water bottle I have seen is the Medics one which is larger and comes with a tiny metal cup.

Here's a picture of the standard Commonwealth '37 Pattern water bottle. I think you'll find they are similar regardless of which country made them. The blue enamel dates from WW1 and was changed to khaki some time mid-WW2.

UK production changed to green enamel in the late 1930's but many WW1 produced bottles must have seen service.

WW1 bottles also had differently constructed bottoms and no loop for the cork string.

Many thanks for your help regarding the water bottle covers,and thanks to all the other members for their help, well the update is that I have just received some covers from Sabre sales in the U K and I can say they are perfect, colour is exact and the quality leaves nothing to be desired, and the sevice is old fasihoned, six days from the day of my order to when I received them,a great company to deal with and I recomend them if you need ww2 material.
I have no connection with them, just wanted to tell you all that they are great to deal with, thanks guys for your help, this is what this forum is all about,

On the same theme does anyone have some good clear pics of the webbing attaching these water bottles in Aust carriers to their holders on the rear of the air scoop behind the driver above the batterie? and on the lower wall of the gunners postion, Mainly showing the clip used to attach them

I seem to recall using the standard pattern 37 web strap when I was fitting out my 2 Pounder Carrier years ago.

They worked perfectly and looked the part.

Hi all - thanks to a heads up from Ron I found an Aussie supplier of these things. Name is Kevin Willsson kevshome@netspace.net.au

$12.50 plus postage, $3.50 for one and $4.50 for two. I have bought three and they are great. Very snug fit. All you need to do is sew up the flap.

Glad that you are pleased with the covers,only to glad to help,
Now my question is do any of our members have a contact for Copper Bifucated rivets? they were used to attach the felt type packing attached on the insides of the petrol tank support brackets, I have tried a few places and all I get is Duh what are they? guess I am showing my age, I was told some of the big hardware people have deleted them and will not stock them.
anyone out there have a source? thanks in advance,

Saddlery or upholstery places possibly still use these. Finding them not nickel plated is probably hard these days. Shiny MMMMmmmmm!

Ron, I have some somewhere. They are original carrier parts, came in a little cotton bag with a carrier parts tag, and they ARE nickel plated.

I found some a few weeks ago at a saddlery, they seem fine untill you try to open the arms up and they simply snap off, made in China I guess, that was the only reason that I had asked for copper ones I thought that they be less prone to snap, I have used the old Aust ones for many years and never had this problem of them breaking off, So i guess that I will just have to keep looking,its marvelous I seem to have no problem finding the large scarce as rocking horse S,,t parts but a simple thing like a rivet??
