Default Iltis stuck in gear

So was enjoying a nice run on a sunny day, popped in the clutch to turn a corner and gear shift would not move out of 4th. No amount of jiggling or playing has moved it. No warning signs, no funny noises, no fluid loss, no vibration or shaking. Clutch still works. Just solidly stuck in gear.

Any ideas what the problem is (bearing in mind I have the mechanical abilities of a dead slug.....)

Are you driving with 4 WD engaged, and the rear diff lock dis-engaged?

try rolling the veh backwards and see what happens.

(If I still lived in Vic, I'd be there already.)

Default Sorry to hear of the transaxle issue.

Dave,
Sorry to hear of the transaxle issue.

Have a read through
C-30-108-000/MP-001
FIRST, SECOND AND THIRD LINE MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS
TRUCK, UTILITY, LIGHT 4
X 4 MILITARY DESIGN ILTIS CANADIAN SERIES

SECTION 5
TROUBLESHOOTING
GENERAL
1. The following figures contain troubleshooting
instructions on the power train.
2. For clutch assembly troubleshooting instructions,
see Figure 3-5-1.
3. For transaxle and rear differential troubleshooting
instructions, see Figure 3-5-2.

Now the bad news......
Figure 3-1-13 Neutral Alignment of Shifter Rods
Figure 3-1-14 Spring and Selector Finger of Transmission Shift Lever

For most of the problems when .....
HARD SHIFTING INTO GEAR

when
Shifter fork bent.
Gear teeth broken.
Synchronizing unit damaged.
Selector shaft bent.

is
Replace transaxle.
Replace transaxle.
Replace transaxle.
Replace transaxle.
There is a possibility it just needs a re-alignment of the shifter rods....
Let us know how it works out.......
There are replacement NOS/rebuilt transaxles available in Edmonton.... It may be cheaper to just buy a second Iltis for parts.
Stuart
