Lynx Command and Recce vehicle
Hi;
I'm trying to find some pictures of the ring sight used on the Lynx command and recce vehicle. Anybody have anything they could post? I understand these might be the same sights used for the Centurion as well when the TC's had .50's mounted for air defense. thanks in advance.... Bob

Well, most were designated to be range targets. Some were monuments, but a few were saved, and none are in private hands (apart from museums). The tank museum in Bovington England was using one as the mail truck. But it has been a while since it was used for that purpose.

The Oshawa Museum has at least one running Lynx. They're quick little buggers! I have no bloody idea why we're not still using them....

Well, they were well past their retirement date. The last one I drove, the swing arm bolts let go, and the whole tortion bar assy came with it. They were dangerous when the driveshaft u-bolts broke. As the engine was in the rear and the final drives were up front. They were awesome, but not nearly as fast as the scimitar/scorpion family. Those are really fast, and smooth.
What's with the "zipping along" stuff? Leave you with any head scars? Dan |

I agree with you ref the Scimitar/Scorpion family, but if we're not about to spend the money on buying them, I still say reconditioning the Lynx was the way to go. LAVs are good, but we need a tracked recce vehicle.

I agree, you won't get more of a track fan than me? 15 years as an RCD. Ref the tracks however, the general who took our tanks away is not in favour of tracks. So unless he retires soon...not gonna happen till he's the CDS. We won't see track recce vehicles anytime soon. I was in favour of the Weasel... but nobody listens to a career corporal. It has rubber tracks, a tow missile, or just about anything you want. Plus you could put the current surveillence package inside the vehicle. and run one multi task camera up the mast via fibre optic cable. But GM dosen't make the weasel...the Germans do. But that's a whole ball of stuff altogether.
Any how.....I thought that a recce troop of weasels and modern ferrets would be awesome. Hey it's got to be better than an up armoured jeep and a pick up truck. Dan |

I know of three Lynx M113CRs on display in the Montreal area. One is outside of the R22R Armoury in Laval. The second is besides the RCH Armoury in Cote des Nieges. The last is at the Ordnance Corps Museum in Longue Point, in East End Montreal.
