Default Accessing MLU

I generally use the "tortuga" address for MLU, but this has not connected for a week or two now. I can still access via "orbit", not sure how widespread this is, and it may be my imagination, but numbers seem down as well?
Rich.

Default Mlu

That's the one I'm using now which is why the numbers are down I think. Shawn and Hanno have things well in hand so hopefully the confusion and outages will soon be a thing of the past.

"class-five" hasn't worked for over a week either, it's connecting to an unrelated site.

As many of you know, this is an ongoing problem, and the problems accessing the site differs from user to user. For some reason the website address does not always resolve to the correct location of the forum. This problem is compounded by the Geoff's passing, so we are now working solve it once and for all. This might include a (temporary) move to a new URL, so watch this space for further news.

These URLs should give you access to the site:
- http://orbit.dnsrouter.com/~mlu/forums/ - at least for now for most if not all users;
- http://www.mapleleafup.nl/ - this one will continue to work because I control it and will have it linked to the most current URL.

HTH,
Hanno

I have found, several times, that if I let the connection process fail (to get the message "web site can not be found" or however it is phrased) and then refresh the page, F5 key for Internet Explorer, the site may immediately load.
I don't understand it, but it may help with access or diagnostics.

Who is hosting this site? Is it possible to move it to someone else like Go Daddy or some other Domian registering/hosting company to resolve the issues so that we can use the standard mapleleafup.org?

Strange thing is that I can get to that url from work but not from home, I thought the site was down until I tried from work.

I lost connection from both home and work earlier this week but just thought it was routine maintenance of some sort. After a few days of thinking it was down I decided to search to see if there was a real problem and learned of the alternate links that brought me back today.

This is certainly and issue that needs to be resolved to avoid losing loyal visitors.

Great site.

James

. . . I second that! . . .

I have not been able to get on using http://www.mapleleafup.org/forums/ in a while now, I've been using the backdoor link that Geoff sent me way back when . . .

Yes, I suffer withdrawl too. On the other hand the value for a "no payment required" site, that is fully open to visitors is still incredible.
Thank you to all involved in keeping it going (in spite of the occasional issues).

Default Hi Guys

I have had no trouble for a long time, and couldn't even tell which one I am using, but Geoff gave me four options; class-five.com, tortuga.dnsrouter.com, mapleleafup.org, and lastly www. mapleleafup.org
He told me to bookmark all of these links, and try them all starting with the mapleleaf ones first.
With no intent to discredit anyone else, he is missed

When I have trouble entering the front door and class five fails I can always get in on http://orbit.dnsrouter.com/~mlu/forums/index.php Geoff emailed this address to me when I was having trouble with the other logins. I don't think we will loose any loyal members and we have to remember that the sight is being kept up by voluntiers who also have to work for a liveing to support their own families. In my opinion we owe these men a debt of gratitude and with a little patients we will continue to enjoy MLU

All,

Thanks for your concerns, but, again, this is not a new problem. The ability to access the site differs from user to user. Work to solve it once and for all is in progress!

From now on, please only use these URLs to access the site:
- http://www.mapleleafup.nl/

HTH,
Hanno

... hmm, strange. I'm logged in all the time, even after several hours not visiting MLU. Perhaps you'll have to accept cookies from those 2 URLs?

. . . I do . . .

This is the URL http://69.50.216.121/~mlu/forums/ I've been using and have no problem with when there have been problems with access to the site, as has happened recently. When using this URL, I do not have to log in first, whereas, by using either of the two that Hanno posted earlier, I have to log in once the site comes up.

Default I suspect we have a problem

In that many people cannot log on.

I went two weeks without getting in. remembered that I had Carmins email and she gave me four log ons to try.

Could we not send out an email to all members telling alternate log ins.

It seems to be very quite otherwise

Regards

Col

http://mapleleafup.org/forums/
http://orbit.dnsrouter.com/~mlu/forums/
http://www.class-five.com/~mlu/forums/

try these, the orbit one works for me every time now.

The point that I was making was I did not have the other sign ins.

So without them I had to sit till I located Carmin.

Suspect we have more, cannot Hanno send a bulk email to all members

Thanks

Col

Wow, I just visited that .net MLU and it is spooky, like stepping back into a recent past.
Look here for answers in the TAC HQ to recent troubles:

Well I coudn't get of the forum for about 10 days. Hanno sent me a link to a different way to get on, which I thought I forwarded to Richard and Kevin. But I didn't know we had ended up with two forums? Ron

Dear MLU'ers,

As many of you know, access to the mapleleafup.org site has been erratic for certain groups of users for a long time. This was temporarily bypassed by using alternate URLs. The problem was compounded by the Geoff's passing, so we are now working solve it once and for all. This will include a (temporary) move to the new .net URL, so watch the TAQ HQ subforum for further news.

From now on, only use these URLs to access the forum:
- http://www.mapleleafup.nl/ - this one now links to the URL above, and after the move will point to the new URL.

Please bear with me, the problems are addressed by volunteers who can only spend their spare time on this. The problem is in hand, we only need some more time to offer you a solution to your withdrawal problems

HTH,
Hanno

PS: I have moved all the related topics into one, there is no need to start new ones.
