Default WS-19 crystal calibrator dog bone

Well. I took the plunge and purchased the broken 6/6 crystal calibrator dog bone off of eBay. I justified the shipping by also purchasing the V adapter for my A side aerial. I’m going to try to restore it and will document my progress here, but first, I need to source the proper connector. I need one of these. If you can help I’ll be very grateful.

Good move, James.

Personally, I would now buy a 12-pin Calibrator Dog Bone, and harvest the full cable assembly from it. Restoring an original 6-pin unit trumps sacrificing a fairly common 12-pin.

That’s not a bad idea at all. Thanks.

you could also make your own. Buying this connector will give you the correct shell with locking tabs. The male insert is changable. The female insert is a Cinch S303CCT, lots on ebay.

even 12 pin connectors are worth saving.

James.

A couple of other things you will need to track down for restoring the 6-Pin Connector.

One inch wide, black, cloth Electricians Tape. You won't find it in any hardware or electrical shop these days. Black plastic stuff is what will be on the shelves. However, you should be able to still find it in any Sporting Goods Store dealing with hockey equipment, being sold now as black hockey stick tape.

You will also need to find a spool of thin cotton cord.

Oh! I lied…a number '3' will be a small can of varnish.

Thanks Bruce and David. The new connector is on the way. I have plenty of the correct tape. As a bomb tech, I’ve used it extensively. I’ve sourced the cotton thread. I’ll get the varnish. A Ham friend of mine near Tinker AFB just to the south of me has the correct mesh shielding.

I need two other things if you can assist. I need a schematic or similar to show me which wire goes in which end of the plug, and the length of the power wire itself.

Thank you!

Default Wire Length

Hi James.

15 inches between the back of the plug and the entry hole into the dog bone.

Add 3 inches at the dog bone and an inch at the plug for wiring in, and you are good to go.

Default Wiring Specs

Me Again, James.

Your plug will have three sockets: two parallel and the third perpendicular to them.

Orient the plug so the two parallel sockets are at the top.

- Top socket is a red lead with a black tracer. It runs to Pin 6 on the dog bone.

- Middle socket is a black lead. It runs to Pin 1.

- Lower socket is a brown lead. It runs to Pin 3.

In the dog bone, the wiring should be:

- Pin 1: Black, Negative Ground.
- Pin 3: Red, +12 Heaters.
- Pin 6: Red with yellow tracer, +275 volt HT2

I suspect the stub of the original cable is still in your 6-pin, so that should help you as well, if it is.

Have fun. And stay safe!

David

That’s fantastic! I’ll post up again like you do when I start this project.
