Default Iltis in the movies

So I had a request to supply 4 mocked up iltis for a movie shoot in Vancouver about a month ago as they were going to be blown up and run over with a T54/55 tank. the movie is called THE INTERVIEW and I believe to be out next October sometime.

I spotted an Iltis on an episode of Stargate Atlantis (circa 2004). My eyes were distracted to the good looking Russian officer who was driving. I guess a GAZ 4x4 was too hard to find locally.

I think Chris summed it up nicely.

Once thing that should be learned from a thread like this, which shows before and after pictures of a quick cosmetic application, is that you should never buy a vehicle based on photos only.....spend the loot to travel out and see it in person, or get someone local to have a look at it for you. Imagine how much someone might have paid on something like ebay based on the pre-crush photos.

Who says they were in a bad shape? Some people would have no problem with letting as-good-as-new Iltis jeeps be crushed, simply because they truly dislike the type of vehicle

The third photo presumably shows these vehicles before they were dressed up. It looks like some pretty severe cancer in the bodies.

my experience with movies is that they care not one iota for rare vehicles..or fully restored immaculate rare....
they are props..and to them if a $50 thousand vehicle needs to be destroyed, so be it...while thats a big amount to collectors...its peanuts to a film with a 150-million budget. and where just the promotion runs into several dozens of millions more.

I can't begin to imagine the number of beautiful, rare, vehicles, planes, boats, destroyed forever by Hollywood

Frankly even a rust bucket has usable parts to keep others running --unlike M series jeeps where you can actually build a jeep from the ground up with repro parts... iltis parts are rare and getting rarer...
and its a shame these four were wrecked.

Just to let everyone know that these vehicles were for the most part parted out and what was on them was damaged or rusted in some way or manor. As these came from Ontario they were rusting through their repair patches and destine for the scrappers but made a slight detour before getting there .

Default Scapped historic military vehicles for the film industry

Gents,

I have fond and terrible memories of the Iltis.

Those of us who served while it was in service have both.

The memories of a cool and nice convertible Jeep like imported idea and then the memories of the comrades who were killed or injured in an unsafe barely roadworthy and unarmoured light truck.

You choose as an individual wich you prefer.

But as far as Hollywood goes here is what i propose :

'' Disclaimer ''

There were no historicaly significant trucks destroyed or damaged in the filming this production . Observers form the Military Vehicle Preservation Society were present at all times. ''

Cheers .

Robert

I'll buy two.

Seriously,

I met a WW2 Veteran last nov 11 at the Monument in my home town and he looked at my 1942 Ford F15A G.S. and he said he was not too found of it.He transported the bodies of his comrades in Holland to their last resting place in a similar one
.
Very bad memories.Sad memories.

It is all a question of perspective.

To each his own and we must respect other people's choices.

Viva la PETFMV !

Yes, my buddy's machine is aging, and not so gracefully, although it still runs/drives. Any pieces or bits that could be salvaged etc locally at little or no cost would be a bonus.

Robert, when I had my C60 I remember a bunch of us were parked in the courtyard of the old war museum (ottawa) and a little old guy was looking intently at the truck.. I asked him about his interest and he said he used to drive one just like mine...

I asked if he`d like to sit in the driver seat..`Could I?¨.. Yeah sure!... and he scambled up into the seat like a teenager..and sat there looking out the windshield rubbing his hands around the steering wheel...

after a moment I asked if it brought back memories....Oh yes he said..yes indeed... lots of good ones...some bad ones too....
after a while he climbed down and with damp eyes thanked me..

A very short time later we were to head off the the old bus building where the museum stored lots of stuff...
I asked if he wanted to ride over with me... You bet!! and we drove the short distance with him standing out the hatch... after arrival he thanked me profusely and was alternately smiling and seeming introspective... simultaneously remembering so many private memories I guess, but added before he left that it was one of the best experiences he`d had in years..

Well, all i can say is at least these fine vehicles got their 15 minutes of fame and died as movie stars, and not as mere hard targets on a lonely impact range...
