I'm there in spirit, Garry!

In fact, here I am looking at it from the Wirraway:

Just finished watching the last of "Above and Beyond".

Absolute crap!!!

A typical CBC production riddled with inaccuracies, out-of-period uniforms and vehicles.

Touted as a "true story, based on...", it is anything but.

My tax money in action.

Pity.

Default Above and beyond-

And in my opinion , quite an insult to the Black Watch.
(If this was supposed to be them). Portrayed as a bunch of badly dressed slackers.
Bellying up to the barwith the flight captain?

Was RHC even there?

What veh and equip did they have?

Too bad the CBC gets led down the garden path this way - probably enough veh around to do it right.

Why wouldn't they have taken the turboprops off that DC3 at the start and put them to better use?
Couldn't they find a few CMPs instead of American Dodge weapon carriers down east?
Why a 49 Dodge and a 46 IHC?
And a bubble canopy Chipmunk?
And why are the heroes in Canadian productions always American?

If I were the CO of the Black Watch I would do an advance-to-contact on CBC headquarters. The show protrayed RHC soldiers meandering around the Gander airport like so many tourists at Disney World. At times one 'soldier' wore no webbing while another wore Marching Order. None had his hackle properly steamed and shaped, while all had their Tams pulled down to ear level.

Default New show on T.V.

Here in the U.S. on Public television (KERA in N. Texas) they've just started an 8 episode show titled "Bomber Boys." Its a historical series depicting the B.C.A.T.P. It's filmed on an old air base in Ontario, I believe. I watched most of the first episode last weekend and truly have few complaints about authenticity (so far!). The student pilots are bunking in what appears to be a Nissen hut and the aircraft shown, a Tiger Moth, C-47, Hurricane, and Lancaster are all correct. My only observation is that their drill is sloppy, typical Air Force...arms bending at the elbow when marching, one is out of step, thigh not parallel to the ground when halting and turning, and turning to the left instead of the right after receiving their wings from the C.O. Now if you'll excuse me, I have some Fly shit to pick out of my pepper.

CHIMO!
