Default British officers tent - used by Canadians?

Could anyone tell me if the "British officers tent" was used by the Canadian Army?

Pathfinder Distribution sells reproductions, see http://www.pathfinderdistribution.co...officers-tent/ for what they look like.

Thanks,
Hanno

Default "officers" tent

I have a similar one made with the orange canvas, Woods Manufacturing, 1944 dated. Opens from either end but does not have any vent like the one in the picture.

Default Field Officers Tent (FOT)

The FOT is very similar to your photo. I've seen them in green canvas with an opening on one end, vents on both ends, 2x2" wooden poles, and c/w a fly.
Any CQ worth a pinch still has one folded neatly in Stores.

Cheers

Is this a British / Canadian tent?

With my limited knowledge on this subject, I tend to think US tents are always Olive Drab so a tan one must be Commonwealth? Also note the similarities with the one posted above.

Who can enlighten me on this subject?

Thanks!
Hanno

That wall tent looks to be the same as mine. It does look taller.

Mine has a big C broad Arrow and manufactureres stamp.

Courtesy of Jack from Pathfinder tents, here is a picture of the distinctive orangey canvas associated with Canadian products.

Harry, could you please post pictures of your tent someday? Seems even the most basic information on this subject is scarce. Who knows, one day we might end up gathering enough info for a Service Publications book (it's been done before).

Over on HMVF, Jack Beckett of Pathfinder tents, notes the tan coloured tent in the pictures I posted is based on a US small wall tent as it even has the stove pipe flap (top right hand corner of the door). But it is too high for the US model also it doesn't have the option of being able to roll the side walls up. So maybe this one is indeed a Canadian tent?
I did not get a response from the seller, probably because it was sold as the ad had disappeared within a few days of being posted.

H.

Very good Hanno....you are preparing for Normandy 2014

Would one of those tents fit on top of a 20cwt trailer?

No need for a tent, just a couple of hood bows and a tarp...just like they did in WW2

Hello Hanno
From my reading I think they slept in a slit or under the truck, or both, no?

I've been working on collecting all the items for the 12 Installation Kits for a Wireless Set No. 52 Canadian. Have most of it, but one of the Kits that is missing is most of Kit No.6 Tent Kit.
In the WS52 manual it lists Tents Wireless Station, Holdalls (the orange bag posted above), pegs, lines, etc.
The tent dimensions are listed, Table XVIII P154
Length 7 ft.
Width 8 ft. 6 in.
Height, ridge to floor 6 ft. 6 in.
Height of wall 3 ft. 4 in.

There is no ZA number listed, but under 'MFG. or Part DWG. NO.' is
CMC 108-062

Original kit would have been Canadian issue, therefore 'orange canvas'.
I was aware of Manitoba Tent and Awning, nice lead on Woods Manufacturing.
There is little on the web about WW2 tents let alone Canadian ones, I've even searched Scout Canvas, nothing................. yet.

Hope this helps.

Geoff

PS The Canadian Orange Canvas would lighten considerably after prolonged use.
