Default camoflage scheme on FOX armoured car

Hi all,

A question about camoflage; our FOX got markings from the Italy period, and painted olive drab.
Will it be correct to have some kind of camoflage on it?
And what kind of pattern will that be, any ideas would be greatly apreciated!!!

Cheers,

Stefan Leegwater

Stefan, buy Mike Starmer's book on Sicily and Italy 1943-1945 camouflage. Mike knows everything there is to know about camouflage schemes.

But why not paint it like one of the Foxes in The Hague?

Cheers,
Hanno

Default British vs Canadian

Hi Hanno,

Will the Canadian camoflage be the same as the British camoflage?
If so I'll have to order these copies!

Cheers,

Stefan

Stefan,

As far as I know, yes.

Ask Mike Starmer, he'll be delighted to fill in the details for you.

Regards,
Hanno

Hanno, that is maybe a very interesting idea! So if I read the thread correctly will the markings be:
The Hague, 8 May 45 - they are possibly from the 4th Reconnaissance Regiment (4th Princess Louise Dragoon Guards), C.A.C. (1st Cdn Inf Div - Recce Regt).

And did they use in that time camoflage?

I hope we can find some answers!

Cheers,

Stefan

This is the info Mark Tonner came up with:

On the 8th, 3rd Canadian Infantry Brigade (R22eR; CYR; WNSR) entered The Hague, along with other elements of the 1st Cdn Inf Div.
If I were you I would dig into the local history of Den Haag to see if there is more information.

Looking at the picture, it doesn´t seem these Foxes were camouflaged:

It would be great to see a restored Fox depicting a Fox in Holland!

Dirk/Hanno;

Being a former Recce Patrolman myself, this Fox crew are doing an outstanding job by checking not only to make sure that said bar has plenty of beer on hand for the incoming troops, but also that its COLD... which usually takes one or two down range before making a decision...... .. and then one or two more, just to make sure.....

That's right Hanno,

The first change to make the Fox acceptable for driving the liberation parade's in Holland, is the moving of the "Italian" front-fender boxes.

The pictures showing us a nice view of orginal bins and POW cans. Next step...... the painting job.

Mvg. Dirk

Gentlemen:

I was looking at the photo of the restored "Fox" armoured car and had the strange sense that I had seen it before.

I am researching and writing a book on Sicily/Italy and more specifically a relative who was killed in action with 4 PLDG in Italy.

As such, I have a copy of the regiment's history by McGill.

The armoured car named "Bardia" is featured in a photo on page 131 of that book.

Thought this might be of interest
