Should be quite a number of CMPs there: I see Nick Bullock will be present with his Chevrolet C8. If I am correct, the Dutch Army will be there with a CGT + 25-pdr gun just like last year. I plan to go there for a day, possibly taking along my son Stijn (3+ years old), as he likes planes and trucks so much.

We visited Ursel last year and had a real good time. I entered the C8 there and then for this years show... However its looking more likely that this time around we'll take the HUA ( and a three year old!!!)

As said before, I went down there with my three-and-a-half year old son, and we had a great day. A good variety of vehicles (both WW2 and post-war) and aircraft, lots of stuff to see. Good organisation, nice atmosphere. Sadly, there was a noticeable lack of British participants this year, probably due to the busy 60th anniversary season. Well worth a visit, next year I'll go a couple of days.

Stijn and I saw a Spitfire doing a circuit before landing, and it taxied to park right in front of our noses:

At the end of the day, Stijn was more impressed by this crane:

Really, I find the Multibank truly awesome, and having heard a Merlin just before, the jury is still out on deciding which of the two sounds the best....

Mmmmmmm, 30 holes all firing in proper order and not a muffler in sight, we like that.

Whilst I have a video of the now ex Mr Gas-Axe Multibank-Brown's M4A4, there is the disappointment of the necessary audio compressor on magnetic tape devices, at least 30dB of audio range missing, which is 1000 times in sound pressure level for the non-technical.

Even a good CD has only some 90dB of dynamic range which is a far cry from the 120 odd of the Mk.1* ear hole.

:idea: I shall have to speak nicely to Mr Tankbarrel for an audio "fix" it seems. . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Having attended Beltring with the 'BOYS' and being at the "planning table" about 1/2hr after the injestion of combustibles ,I can attest to Richards above quote/statement. Though the smell was somewhat offputting

I bet the Multibank sounds awesome too

16 litres of supercharged radial engine with all 9 holes firing without a muffler in sight is pretty likeable, too.....go on, click on the picture!

I have already recorded the 'music' onto CD for the Chrysler Museum. They have a Multibank on display and wanted to have an audio experience to go with it!

Luckily, all I have to do to get my fix is go in the shed!

Mind you, the price of fuel being what it is....

You'd think they would have a running one having made shedloads of them, but, like most things, at the time its mundane and ordinary, no one thinks to the future when the ordinary daily items sudenly become highly interesting.

Then of course museums have a habit of sectioning stuff so the grockles and tyre-kickers can see the internals; there is no more comprehensive way of ultimately wrecking an engine than this.

Even the Science Museum has a sectioned Napier Sabre (37 litres of H configured sleeve valve) and latest news suggests Kermit Weeks may never get his Tempest V flying with Sabre power since Ricardo's down here (probably the world's only source for re-worked esoteric aero engines) have declined to handle them owing to the sleeve re-manufacture necessity and potential liability claims.

Of course the sleeve manufacture beat Napier at the time and they sub-contracted them to Bristol who were very secretive about their techniques and materials, I suspect the know-how is lost and even Kermit cannot fund a start-over and re-qualify project.

Wow! Helluva sound! Very similar to the firing up of the Tiger at Samur.
