Looks like a standard mk1, but they removed the battery box from the rear and attached a metal fence to retain kit and re-attached the POW holder to that. I don't see the rubber pads on the steps so my guess is it's a later 42 or a 43 carrier. There is a bracket or two that looks odd on the rear tool plate, but if they had the stuff to make the bracket up top, then they had the stuff to customize their tool stowage.

Looks like a tool box just sitting on the rear deck of a carrier that he has his right hand just over.

i just presumed the bobble had blended in with the tree's if it is a beret.... its a crap hat at that...

I gather from my friend that his Dad served in North Africa and Italy with the Middlesex Regt. Same bloke far right behind the gunner.......So no bobble! Ron
