Default Currently $1.00

Golly, it might even go for twice that price!

Also interesting to read the rest of the entry, especially reserving the right to end the auction at any time:

Quote:
An offer here is a very rare 90% complete and original

Bren Gun Carrier

which is partly restored and requires fitting out and finishing.

These are getting very hard to find now a days with most in private collections.

The tracks are in good condition as is the armoured plating. There are some spare parts etc. When completed, this will sell for $40K plus. Can be inspected in Port Melbourne.

As time permits, I will also be listing some of my other vehicles which include a 1955 Russian tracked Topaz armoured personnel carrier. A real barn find 1952 Morris Champ Jeep in original untouched combat condition. Another barn find, totally original 1944 GMC 6 wheel troop carrier in untouched original condition. Another barn find untouched and original 1972 Landrover (Field Engeineers) believed to be a Vietnam Vet. A 1974 Acco 6 wheel 4 x 6 truck. Another un-restored Bren Gun Carrier needing extensive restoration.

***I reserve the right to end this auction at any time

as this item is listed elsewhere***
In my database I have carrier 563 as being listed for sale in 2006 in Qld in 'very poor condition'.

I just spoke to the previous owner and he sold it about a year ago on eBay and got $17000 for it! I imagine he's probably looking for that sort of money at least.

Not half as disappointing as the $7,900 the seller didn't get if the previous sale price was correct!

Yes keith, he would be disappointed but the person who got $17,000??? would have been over the moon for a non restored carrier. As a matter of fact I've got a couple of non restored they can have for $16,995
colin.

It's a curious co-incidence the the Seller of this carrier and the Buyer in the first auction use very similar terms when they leave feedback for others("Great fast transaction. Highly recommended AAA111" Vs "Nice fast transaction. Well recommended A1111."), I have no idea of the significance of that fact or why it may be relevant to the carrier sale not being completed the first time around.

On a completely unrelated matter, does anyone know what Shill Bidding is?

Default Shill Bidding

Tony - ex. Wikipedia

A shill is an associate of a person selling goods or services or a political group, who pretends no association to the seller/group and assumes the air of an enthusiastic customer. The intention of the shill is, using crowd psychology, to encourage others unaware of the set-up to purchase said goods or services or support the political group's ideological claims. Shills are often employed by confidence artists. In the UK the term plant is also used.

Shilling is illegal in many circumstances and in many jurisdictions because of the frequently fraudulent and damaging character of their actions. However, if a shill does not place uninformed parties at a risk of loss, but merely generates "buzz", the shill's actions may be legal. For example, a person planted in an audience to laugh and applaud when appropriate (see "claque") or to participate in on-stage activities as a "random member of the audience", is a type of legal shill.

"Shill" can also be used pejoratively to describe a critic who appears either all-too-eager to heap glowing praise upon mediocre offerings, or who acts as an apologist for glaring flaws. In this sense, they would be an implicit "shill" for the industry at large, as their income is tied to its prosperity.

I reckon this is a common Ebay practice. Off course as you say this is totally unrelated to the current Carriers on Ebay.

Bob

This carrier has now been removed by ebay for violating their policy!
Tony, you may have been onto something there with the similar feedback.

Cheers Bob, I thought it looked similar.
On another note, has anyone been able to contact the chap/s selling the carriers on ebay? I've tried but so far no response.

Default Strickland

Hi all - have been talking direct with the owners instead of filtered conversations through Emails. This is NOT the Kaniva Strickland, this is another one obtained off a farm. Its Hull No. is 682. Another new one for my database. It is also back on Ebay. The owners can't understand why it went off.

Question

Hi all, just looking at the carrier 563 on ebay. The radiator is not carrier, it also needs a recore anyway. I think the engine might have water inside as the bottle on top looks like a recent addition. The cloth looks dry and the engine and surrounding area is wet but there is no top on the engine cover.
I'm curious as to why there is no rear or overhead photo's.

Colin.

Default Carriers In Orange

Hi Colin - I see you are registered in Orange. For your interest Ophir Electric in Orange, if they still exist, had three 1941 SAR Carriers. #1382, #1487 & #1738. See if you can find out what happened to them.
