Default UC paint scheme

Hi all
Can anyone direct me to colour pics of a Mk II in a Cdn infantry Regt paint sceme. I'm wondering which base colour to paint the one we have. Green or Brown? :

Default UC Colour

Hi there

All depends on what period you want to depict.

Short Answer?

In the UK, Mid 1941 on, they were No.2 Brown, April 1944 they were Olive Drab.

Thank you Steve.

The paint job is a favour for the Cameron Highlanders of Canada in return for some of it's parts for ours. Guess I'll have to ask them which colour they'd like. They'll try and have it placed outside an Armoury next year but I need to get it back to them by end month.

Could you describe #2 Brown in another way?? I wonder if the modern Army brown will do?

Thanx again for your help.

Darrell

As it appears to be a standard Mk.II*, I'd go with a khaki green for a Northwest Europe presentation, circa summer 1944. It's a bit lighter than the U.S. olive drab we used in late 1944 - BTW, if there's a data plate on this, what's the mfr date? - and you could camouflage it if they wish.

Check the Softskin and Restoration forums for a great deal of previous dialogue on vehicle colours, including good stuff on the mystical No.2 (Dog Turd) Brown...

Darrell,

Modern Army brown won't do - see paint schemes for CMP trucks for a picture of Standard Camouflage Colour No.2 ("#2 Brown"). Mike Starmer describes it as a "rich dark brown with a slight "khaki" hint" and gives a colour mix in one of his articles - see the links at the bottom of the paint schemes for CMP trucks page.

Hope this helps,
Hanno

Geoff
Thanx for the tips. I did read the very good posts about paint in the Restoration topic. There's a guy near London who has a Brown one. His name eludes me at the moment but has had it at Woseley Bks and the Airshow a few years ago.

Hanno
Thanx for the links. I now see the difference in the NATO Brown and #2 Brown.

I'll let you know how it turns out.
