Hi
I am part of the team that works on this Bren Carrier MK2, we are looking for wiring diagram and parts assembly. Do any of you know about a supplier or a person who sells or would like to donate a copy of a book with all info to our museum? I have seen a copy of a thick book of the universal bren carrier MK2 (but not for sale :-( . Regards Israel |

Please consider posting a picture of your dash panel. I suspect it is a MK-I* with push button engine starter, Canadian instrument switch MK-I*, upgraded electronic oil pressure sending unit, no fuel gauge. See here for the Canadian and British wiring diagrams of the MK-II* and MK-II carriers : http://mapleleafup.net/forums/showpo...53&postcount=5 http://mapleleafup.net/forums/showpo...68&postcount=1 Last edited by Michael R.; 20-06-17 at 16:03. |

A MK-I, likely a Canadian produced MK-I* for a British contract, converted using MK-II upgrade parts. Note the mantlet is British, the rear compartment firing rests do not converge. The spare bogie wheel mounting assembly is from the upgrade to Welsh Guard Stowage standard.
The hull displays MK-I* features: 1) front compartment oval shape drain opening 2) MK-I wiring conduit through divisional wall to engine 3) MK-I lower engine rails 4) MK-I upper rear protection plate wireless battery box cable access holes (x2) 5) lower hull rear plate engine openings, two rectangular holes either side of the differential |

Looks good!
Once you find the lower hull number, upper hull number, engine serial number, along with the WD number, day, month and year of manufacture and serial number on the driver front protection plate .... then compare it with the WD T 202432 number showing on the British NO.2 MK-2 bronze fender plate .... it may show that the Canadian made MK-I* was converted to NO.2 MK. 2 and a specific British fender mounted data plate was attached. Otherwise the data plate and likely the fender is off a different vehicle. You can see the original Ford factory two drive rivets that held the Canadian data plate remain in the protection plate on the divisional wall behind the drivers head, just below the 'FORD' plate. |

Can you buy the tapered wheel bearings all day on eBay, or from assorted USA based auto supply shops?
A quick surf on eBay shows the bearings at various prices. You displayed Timken 3984: that is BB 4221 B, the inner cone and roller bearing. The same bearing is also supplied as Bower 3984. Note this is not the same bearing as the hub outer cone and roller assembly, BB 1240 A, and BB 1239 A (race) . The grease seal is BB 1175 C. This seal is now available at Macs Antique Auto for USD $4.99. Their part number 47-31970-1. It was much higher priced a short time ago. I ordered some of those Mac $4.99 wheel seals, and am happy to say they are proper. I have had other companies try ans supply seals that did not have the protrusion to sling the oil into the oil cone...the Mac's seals are proper.
The hoarder in me ordered 10. |

On some housings, the bolt head of the locking bolt has deteriorated making it difficult to locate and remove. In FUC-03 the locking bolt is reported as not replaced after the 1940 design.

For those who have a shaft or housing that is too rough to take a std. bearing arrangement, I have turned up a Nyloil (an industrial plastic) bush to fit and fill the housing. I have drilled and grooved it so that grease can enter it in the original way. So far it appears to work fine.

To clarify: Adjuster unit and Expander assembly.
The brake ADJUSTER plungers are left and right hand, i.e.: "handed". See part numbers for the handed adjuster unit plungers: C01UC-105217 R.H. (right hand) C01UC-105218 L.H. (left hand) http://mapleleafup.net/forums/showpo...6&postcount=14 Another thing to consider is the fact the EXPANDER housing is not fixed, but 'floats". The brake expander housing is supplied with slotted or castellated brass nuts, and Thackery washers to create the necessary tension. The floating expander housing assists with the brake adjustment Last edited by Michael R.; 11-09-17 at 16:06. |

The height of the rubber is different. I had noticed that your carrier has the front (adjustment) wheels used on the boggies. Should be working though.

The track adjuster wheel rubber profile can be observed visually, you will see it appears "lower" than the standard bogie wheel. The "higher" rubber profile on the standard 94x3 Canadian bogie wheel is obvious on a side by side comparison. Look also for the markings such as CTL 94 x 3 and CTL 17 x 3. Wheels and tires should be should be considered as two components. This is because production changes were not concurrent. Ideally you are looking for the latest production, marked C.T.L. 94 x 3 on both components, i.e wheel and rim. Why? Two reasons: 1) Early "wheel spoke diameter was increased to overcome spoke breakage which occurred with the first type wheel under severe operating conditions." 2)"The rubber in the tires was also modified to overcome blow-out . . ." Instructions were issued directing that: "first type bogie wheels were not to be perpetuated by re-tiring." Note: "RE-tiring of the original design bogie wheels with 19" tires for use as track adjusting wheels (CTL 17 x 3) is considered satisfactory practise." You are likely aware the track adjuster wheel mounts on a spindle using different inside and outside inner diameter bearings. This is unlike the bogie wheels that use two bearings with the identical inner diameter. Those differences also require the application of different related components. See your parts manual illustrations and note the different applications for the following part numbers: TL 18, TL 19, CTL 20B, CTL 21, CTL 22, TL 23, TL24, CTL 25, TL 95, CTL 334, C01UC 100300, C01UC 100301, CTL 1798. |

Thanks Michael for your complete answer, I have to renew the rubber (Rubber coating) on all wheels, I noticed from picture slight difference on the wheel, now I see one inch difference on rubber , I found someone can do the Rubber coating.
Thanks

You are welcome.
You may find the tire portion on the 19 inch track adjuster wheel is set deeper inside the wheel as compared to the CTL 94x3 20 inch bogie wheel. There is some documentation to suggest this allows the track horns to bear against the more exposed steel rim of the track adjuster wheel during the track warping operation. Nigel Watson makes a brief reference to this in Volume I of his work in Universal Carriers. |
