Default Welcome to the Zanny world of OD green....

You have found a very nice fairly complete Chevrolet 60 cwt.

Should have been equipped with a General Service cargo box.

Now that you have been bitten by the restoration there is no known cure but you may be able to reduce the pain by buying a second one for spare parts and another and another.......

Keep us informed of your progress with pictures as some of us can't read to well.
And do not be shy about asking questions....... forum members are always willing to help out.

Good luck.

Thanks Bob

There wil be a lot of questions in due time, my son and i have used the evening to Power Wash the hole vehicle, trying too get som old grease of the back.

I vould also like to find out the pedigree for this one, who order it where has it been.

I can see that it has been at the Norwegian Army, has had it some year after the war.

since then in private ownership.

Default Joint the fun

Hi Werner

Great to see another CMP truck being restored. What wheelbase is it 134 or 158 inches? Can't quite tell from the photo, 134 would make it C60S and 158 would be C60L. Before you get your tape measure out quick eyeball check is C60S as a single drive shaft between the transfer case and rear axle while the C60L as two drive shafts with a bearing block in the middle.

Look forward to hearing and see more about your project.

Cheers Phil

Hello Werner,

From the thread Revised 1942 S/M Contracts Listing we learn the following about S/M 2570:

So your C60L was one of 1728 trucks ordered by the British Government and delivered to the United Kingdom (as in the geographic location). To which unit it was allocated is very hard to trace. So where it served during WW2 will probably remain a mystery, maybe unless you can find unit markings etc.

But as your truck was found in Norway, I think we can assume it was one of the vehicles taken by the British Army to Germany after WW2. The reasoning behind this is the following: the Independent Norwegian Brigade Group in Germany (Tysklandsbrigaden) was part of the British occupying force after World War II. Tysklandsbrigaden was supplied by the British, including transport, and reportedly the Brigade took (at least) their trucks back to Norway when they left in 1953. I have been told practically all CMPs surviving in Norway came from that Brigade.

HTH,
Hanno

A further search on this forum revealed more info about S/M 2570 in the thread Chevrolet C60 twins (reposted):

Another survivor in Norway:
