Rob.

Just a thought on your quest for tyres.

That particular vehicle was so close to the start of the CMP production run in Canada during the war, is it possible the particular tyre used was an off the shelf commercial pattern?

There are a number of companies in the USA catering to vintage commercial car and truck restoration people that might have access to the tyre specs for the tyres you need. They repro a good number of long forgotten tread patterns and defunct brand names these days.

It might be worth sending some of them the details off the sidewalls of the tyres you have, in case one of them has a match for you.

Could you post photos and dimensions for the bench, when time permits? Much appreciated.

Default Top Scrounger!

Rob,
You are coming close to being the top scrounger of Manitoba.I think Gord's title is on the line as you are coming close to beating his record of bringing home CMP parts!Nice find that would make any HUP owner envious over your treasure trove of parts. I could have used those parts 5 years ago! Keep up the good work. Does this mean a personnel HUP in the Fast brothers collection?
Derk.

Default Dirk..I would never think ...

of taking that scrounger title away from Gord Falk who has been at the restortion hobby for 30 years+++++! A dozen carriers, numerous CMPS, Ferrets, a man totaly commited to his pasion, never taking a provincal highway home, checking for what he might see in the back 40 acrres. Not very vocal here, but worth his weight in gold.

Default More rain for Manitoba....

Now if it can keep on raining in Manitoba maybe...just maybe...Manitoba will shrink......along with Sask. and Alberta and us poor fellas from Ontario can finally drive out West and do some scrounging as well...... there is so much stuff there and so few people......

Make it shrink.... make it shrink....

Default Rain in Manitoba

Bob,
It has been raining here for 3 years only pausing for the winter months when it freezes but the snow comes and accumulates and melts in the spring giving us spring floods and more water to deal with.If this keeps up,nobody will benefit from our pristine bush CMP's because all of Manitoba will be one big lake and you won't see anything but waves, unless there may be one on a high spot in Manitoba.Oh wait,if it was that visible Gord Falk would have spotted it already! Oh when will the sunshine come to dry us out so I can finally take off my rubber boots!
Derk.

Default C8 ready for final paint job...

Thanks to David DeWeese for a couple of his well made wheel adapters . I copied them for my rear end. Still missing a couple of rims, I am still looking hard. Cheers for now, Rob

Default A little off topic here...

I flew up to Churchill Manitoba for a day trip with my first cousin Captain, who is flying tourists into Churchill for the polar bear season. I sat in the jump seat up front and watched a couple of professional 25000 hr pilots bring in a prop job in low pressure 29.55, winds 35 gusting to 50 kts, rain, visibility 2 miles, base clouds 900 ft... Very cool. Went for a quick dirve to see the Black Brant rocket site, the remains of the Dew Line site, saw 2 polar bears being airlifted out of bear jail, and bumped into two more just a couple miles out of town. These bears are the size of small elephants! People carry high powered rifles here. Bad pics, Cheers Rob

Default Spare tire back left wireless box question?

How did the spare mount onto the back left lidded box. I see 3 holes in the side. There is a slight indent on the floor of my box in this location. Looking for all kind of detail on the guts of this box/19 set trays, chorehore table and outside shelf, battery locations etc...Cheers Rob

Default A little progress by the seat of our pants!!!

Taking a close look at existing welds and a really faint pic in the Profiles/Gregg book of this wireless box, we are kinda stumbling here. See pics of some back box work, orginal bows, and side curtain Cab 11/12.. Any drawings out there??? Cheers Rob

Rob..
I think what you are looking for is in the bodies manual which gives quite a good bit of detail on the Wireless body and bows and canvas and box..Grant Bowker has it for sale as a repo reprint..Here is the item.

#2: 150 pages Bodies Part List Illustrated, for CMP vehicles, G.S. (Wood and Steel), F.A.T. W-35 Wrecker, Water Tanker, Etc., 34 plates, issued by Dept. of Munitions & Supply, Canada. Oct. '41.

That manual has the 1A1 and not the 1B1 like Rob needs. The only pics I have I posted on my 8 cwt pics thread. The one of my uncle is the only period pic of a 1B1 with the canvas in place that I've come across.

Default Thanks for your replies guys...

at this point I am willing to buy any manual that can help me with moving on with the restoration of the back of the 1B1 Wireless box. Off to the shop to fine tune fitting the side curtains. Cheers Rob

Default Back box 1B1 fly by the seat of your pants update.

Bows and spare tire are in. See top of back 2 bows"highlighted" left side, where there are mounting holes for a panel/clip rack for the telescopic 20/32' 19 set antennae??? They look like rifle clips on the vague Gregg Profiles drawing of the 1B1, so this is a stab in the dark. We had an original slider for the cabinet doors on the back right, so we bent up the cabinet to fit. I know we didn't get the spade/pic mounting back left right , but it will suffice for now until a proper drawing comes around. The back folding shelf for the exterior mounting of the chorehorse could be a challenge. Tommorrow honing new Kingpin set into place. Cheers for now, looking forward to getting dirty all over again with the FAT. Cheers Rob

Default A good tyre find.

Just found 4 NOS 9:00 x 13 Firestone tires for this truck. As we all know , the 13 inch rubber is a tough find. Should have them on the truck this week, which will give the truck a really nice original look. Cheers Rob
