Sand color painting
Hello
My ford FAT cab 12 looks to have been painted in sand colors when it was "new", some original colors can be seen under the truck. Can someone give me the reference of this painting in RAL if possible? Is that sand color comon on this truck? Cheers Sylvain |

Sylvain,
That would be Light Stone #61. When the brunt of the fighting was in North Africa and many of the Commonwealth armies were dependent on Canadian vehicle manufacture, many if not most vehicles were painted Light Stone. Not all reached North Africa, those which were diverted to other theatres were repainted. There is no RAL equivalent. You could go to the expert on paint colours Mike Starmer - he has recipes to mix the right colour - see http://www.mafva.org/british-vehicle...flage-1939-45/ - or buy his books. Read more on my webpage http://www.mapleleafup.nl/cmpvehicles/paint.html HTH, Hanno

Please note that finding parts in Light Stone colour does not mean the whole truck had that colour. It could well be that single parts or even assemblies had that colour, only to be sprayed in the final top coat colour as required per the contract which of course could be changed as war progressed and materiel had to be shipped to other theatres of war.
