Default Message Editor Interface settings?

Tony,

Not to distract from your excellent rebuild thread, but could you please tell us how you adjusted your forum settings so you can insert the attached images into your text?

I see now that when one quotes the posting the pictures do not show up - see below.

Thanks,
Hanno

A couple of hours spent filling & sanding, more filling, more sanding. Fair result but not as good as drivers door.

Getting the little line straight plagued me, and i'm not convinced I got it good enough. The bit furtherest away from camera was/is the wabbly part. It doesn't really show up well in the photo, but it's there! I gave that an extra coat of spray putty for a really good block sand tomorrow.

Paint on tomorrow, as usual..weather permitting.

I spoke with the fellow who made my rifle butt blocks, today. They are ready and I will pick them up Monday.

Phil, it was your plans that he worked from, and I also sent him one of the photos you had posted on 11th March. Thanks again.

I was hoping one of you guys would tell me what happened!

I made a post in the usual way, previewed to check spelling, and then submitted the post. When I looked at it a little while later.........it was like you see it now.

The only things that were different were (1) I may have closed the file upload page before I pressed submit reply, but I have done this before without the problem, and (2) internet connection was very slow and everything took ages.

Tony,

To understand what went wrong, we need to find out how you manage to insert pictures into the text of your posting in the first place!
Most members can only attach the pictures to hang off the bottom off the posting.

Did you alter any of you settings under "User CP" (see below)?

Which browser do you use?

Thanks,
Hanno

Go to User CP > Edit Options > Miscellaneous Options > Message Editor Interface and if you then choose "Basic editor", "Standard editor" or "Enhanced Interface"

Depending upon the capabilities of your web browser, you may not be able to use all of these options. If you experience problems when posting messages, try switching to a different interface type.

I don't believe I have changed anything at all. Not knowingly, anyway.

Browser is IE version 8.

Sorry I can't help with what is different, but ask as many questions as you need. I will answer as best I can.

Tony,

Thanks for the reply, I will look into it further.

And move this out of your thread.

Thanks,
Hanno

Default I tried to duplicate this yesterday

Hi Hanno

I tried to duplicate this yesterday using different settings and different methods of inserting or copying images into message. Tried three different times and several different methods and crashed the reply window each time. The MLU server would go off into never never land and not return as soon as I hit preview post until I opened a new browser window. Check the connection speed at my end and checked access to other sites no problem.

The system seem not to like having different methods inserting images used in the same message.

Cheers Phil

Interestingly, the HMVF forum uses the same software as we do and they have the possibility to choose between the option where photos are attached, or when using the "Enhanced Interface", to attach and then insert pictures into your text.

This is what Tony and a few other members unwittingly do here, but which I cannot replicate

Howard,

In this thread 1937 maple leaf for sale I can see you can do the same "trick" as Tony.

Could you please elaborate on your settings?

Thanks,
Hanno

Default Clues, but no answer yet...

OK after a bit of mucking around, I have found this.
If I "post reply" to this thread we are actually looking at now, my interface looks like this:

Name:	editor 3.jpg
Views:	9
Size:	25.1 KB
ID:	49831
So images are attached using the (paperclip) "Attachments" button.
However, on SOME threads when I hit the "Post Reply" I get a slightly different interface, thus:

Name:	editor 2.jpg
Views:	9
Size:	24.5 KB
ID:	49830
This one has an additional button, the "Insert Image" button where I can link to an image on another web site such as Photobucket or even Shedfull. But this button does not appear when I reply to some threads, this one we are reading now, for example.

Question Getting there, I think

Now, I have managed to create a post with both the styles of attachments. I assure you, this was not planned!
Interestingly, all 4 attachments were uploaded using the same method. However, the one shown in the "Attachments" box at the base of the post was the only one not posted in the composition of my post. ( Gawd, this is sounding complicated, doesn't it?! I am sure it isn't as complicated as I am making it sound...)

Question Try Again...

So testing once more...

This post was created by uploading the three photos, but not actually attaching them to the post... ????
Also, my editor interface is set to "Standard Editor" and IIRC I have never changed this setting.
