Default Bye Bye Bailey: Port Hope, ON, 13 May 2017

Operation Bye Bye Bailey will begin in Port Hope ON , Saturday, May 13. The 32 Combat Engineer Regiment will remove the Barrett St. Bailey bridge as part of a military exercise and free event under the local Canada 150 celebration.
The public event will double as a history lesson about the important role these bridges played in Canadian history.

Default Existing Baileys

There is a short span of "Bailey" on Fuller and Broadhurst Drives across the Massawippi River near Earlstown (ie rural Waterville), Quebec. It was there three weeks ago.

Trusting the professional caution of Quebec's professional engineers, I expect our grandchildren will be using this particular bridge before it gets replaced.

(Bob Bergeron knows this little piece of the world too.)

Default Bridge Identification

From what I can tell by looking at Google maps images, the bridge is most likely Acrow and not Bailey (on-site investigation would confirm). Much like CJ6 and M38A1 Jeeps, they look the same but they are not the same.

Robin it was actually Janet who brought it to my attention. She wondered if we could buy a hunk of it to put over the pond. It turns out one of my customers who is with the engineers is the one who looked at it and said they would remove it. His parents were in the garage the other day and I asked them to ask Steve to find out where it was going. Janet won't care if its Bailey, Acrow, Acme, Ajax or a Hamilton Bridge. I will try to get some better photos to post here for identification.

I missed out on a few sections of Bailey last year right close to home. Guess someone else needed a bridge more than I did...
At any rate, I know where there is another. One day, because everyone needs a bridge to nowhere!

I believe that the bridge spanning Lakeshore Blvd from the CNE grounds to Ontario Place is a Bailey or the like.

There was another one nearby which an enterprising restaurant owner, Paul Weber, managed to pry from the city of Toronto's hands.

He had it installed over Hwy 11 allowing southbound traffic to park and cross over to Weber's famous burger establishment.
