Default Soldier history from army numbers anywhere?

Finally managed to persuade my sister to dig out dad's army numbers.

Any on-line sites anywhere that I can search for a bit of history against his numbers?

Hi Gordon,

That's great that you have your Dad's service numbers. I wish i could give you some good links/info where to find information, but I don't know of any in Scotland. I'm sure someone in here will be able to point you in the right direction. There has to be an archives of records and maybe even searchable online databases etc for information. If your Dad survived the war then maybe you can get his records from the archives. If he didn't (and I'm very sorry for you and your family if he didn't ) then he would be listed in sites listing fallen soldiers I'm sure?

Do you know who/which regiment your Dad served with?

Good luck with this ... I really do know how wonderful it is to go from having no past history, to finding out stories about family/loved ones. Nothing sweeter than that ... and to be able to tell the stories to kids and other family.

Default British...

My father was in the Royal artillery for most of his service career - don't see any easy way to get information online just from his army numbers as I don't have regiments, etc.

Appreciate any pointers you can give.
