Default Which carb to run ?

Which is best to run if you cannot get a carb with a governor ?

I have the remains of my original carb, plus one given to me by a mate... Both need a full overhaul if they are to be used....

I have a ford 94 and a Holley 94 type fifty something...

I was also considering a Stromberg 97 ...... Can anyone advise ?

Default Carb

Richard, Go on ebay USA and pic up a rebuilt ready to fit Holley 94 for around $200.

Item : 151242898545 is just an example.

You can ebay off the two you have to finance the postage.

Kevin.

Default Stromberg

I was toying with Stromberg 97 as I can get them brand new in this country... Just not sure how well they work on a carrier lump.

I can get the carbs I have fully rebuilt by royal kustoms for £110

But just wanted to get a consensus for who has tried what etc etc.

Richie

I've got a nos Solex which is the correct one for my carrier. It ran the engine fine when we ran it in. However, I have heard they're not the best carbs in the world but as it's the correct one I'm going to give it a go. If it's crap then I'll go with something more reliable like the Stromberg, purely for ease of use. Jim likes the Stromberg!

The Strombergs were a pain to try to run on the old Ford cars. The 94s were better

David, can you give us more detail? Every hot rodder seems to only want a 97.

I have plumbed for a 94 as they were fitted during wartime on USA manufactured units and are the most modern period USA carb suitable. The British carbs were single choke where as the Ford 94s and Strombergs were twin choke designs which I think better suit the application. I brought two from California via the internet, with a £20 rebuild kit and built one good unit from the pair.

Try Treadwell Carbs.

They rebuilt my original that included the governor, and ran it in on a test bed V-8. Cost US$ 85.00 to rebuild.

unimpressive website, but the work is fantastic!

Default Carbs

Hi Ritchie,
I have been running SOLEX AAPI twin chokes on Flathead V8 lorries for years . Wally Wheatley of Nordian in the distant past said they were the best with a bit more preformance and better consumption.

Might still have one about, in fact Andy jsut had his rebuilt byt the Carb Dr for about £ 130

Let me know

Andy
