Default Fire truck info

Wondering if anyone might have information/pictures related to fire trucks used by the RCAF both during WWII and afterwards?

Working on restoring a 1937 International and a 1953 Bickle-Seagrave
Thanks
Walter

Several of the guys in our local MV group here in New Hampshire are very interested in military fire and crash trucks. Here is one web link www.armyfiretrucks.com

The trucks we are working on were Canadian built, the IH apparently by Pierre Thibault of Quebec and the 1953 by Bickle Seagrave of Ontario.
We have been able to find some information about them but are hoping to find as much history about them as possible.

The D50 International http://members.shaw.ca/smfc/37/thumbnails/thunv014.jpg

The 1953 Bickle Seagrave http://members.shaw.ca/smfc/miscphot...ls/misc007.JPG

We are working on restoring the appearance of them and getting them working as well as possible for display at The Sukanen Ship Museum www.sukanenmuseum.ca

Default Somone here may be helpful?

Hi Walter,

Maybe someone in this forum may have some information or leads to other sites or people who might have. There HAS to be many firefighters interested in the history of the vehicles and their military use/involvement? Maybe???

Default Summerside PEI

I don’t think that this will be of much help, but here goes anyway. My father was in the RCAF during WWII and was based in Summerside PEI. I have one photo which shows the rear end of an RCAF Fire truck. On the back of the photo is written “This guy drives the fire wagon”.

I’m sorry but that is all that I have.

Interesting pic, John. Looks like the rear end of a Truck, 3-ton, 6x6, Crash Tender (Ford/Marmon-Herrington MM5-6).

Cheers,
Hanno

After doing a fair bit of research I was able to find out that The National Museum of Science and Technology in Ottawa has The Bickle Seagrave and Thibault production records. The Bickle Seagrave records are catalogued by name of purchaser and serial number of vehicle, so was able to find and get copies of the original shop order and production photo for the 1953 Bickle Seagrave. Unfortunately the Thibault archives is not so well organized. Emails direct to Thibault have resulted in no response.

Neither archive lists total number of vehicles produced or gives pictures of the vehicles from different angles.

I have been in contact with the "Home Of The Canadian Military and DND FR Group Firefighters Online" www.firehouse651.com and the good folks there are looking for what they might be able to find for photos and information to help us out.

Any photos of the trucks from different angles would be helpful in the restoration process since a fair bit of equipment has been removed over the years.

Thanks again
Walter
