Default Half-STAFF!

Belay that man and toss him in the brig 'til he knows the difference 'twixt the twain.

In Canada, it's "half-staff", in commemoration, as Alexander pointed out, of the efforts of the Canadian Corps at Vimy Ridge.

Remember..."half-staff"...

Default Half of this, half of that

OK, Alexander, you've presented archived material which purports to be correct. The sources are, however, media sources.

I still maintain, and have further confirmed, that in Canada, the proper military term is "half-staff".

Let's all not get into a pissing contest about the terms of reference; suffice it to say that you have presented your source material, I have presented mine.

Meanwhile, shall we all pause, at an appropriate moment, and reflect on just what happened at Vimy Ridge?
