Default Charging Confusion...

Hi All,

Hopefully someone can offer some advise about the wiring for my cut-out on my generator.

Basically I have the original generator for my carrier, along with a cutout mounted on it as per the original.

There are two wires that come from the generator...one is the field wire and one is the armature wire.

I attach the armature wire to the G location on the cutout.
The field wire I put to ground.

The two wires from the carrier...the red wire in my photo connects to the Ammeter , the blue wire goes to the switch board, terminal "P"

My confusion is...which wire goes where on the cutout?

I can't seem to get the battery charging! Below is a photo of my set up...

If you want to get your system going, you have to polarize the generator by briefly touching a wire between the batt line and the armature. That sets up your field.

At least that is the way it works in jeeps!

Post Gererating problems:

Take the cap off the cutout relay - you can then watch it cycle as you increase the engine rpm picks up slightly.

Id approach this slightly different.
Leave everything disconnected, use short leads to jump from the generator to the cutout. Once you are sure that the generator is hooked up right, worry about the wiring from the cutout to the panel.

An ohmmeter can be used to check the cutout:

Resistance from one terminal to ground. that's the generator side

open circuit on the other, that's the panel side

Close the contacts and there should be min resistance between the two terminals.

I wish I was there to play-
