Carrier track
I think I've finally found the easiest way to disassemble Carrier track to bore over for the oversized pins (after about 168 links).
Has anyone ever had to take apart as much track as this before? It would have been easier if it had of been run around on a carrier for a few miles instead of filling the spaces with rust for years! Oh well, having fun anyways! Rob Groves |

I've been told it helps to soak rusty track in a barrel of diesel fuel for a couple of months. |

Easy way... I think
Well, I got a piece of railway track (3' long) and leaned the track section (about 20 links) up against it with the welded side up.
Then with a 7" coarse sanding disk on a grinder, took the tops off of the welds. You can see it turning blue when you get to the pin and washer. Then lay the whole section on its side and knock off the donuts with a chisel. In the piece of railway track are some joining holes, now turn the track section grinded side up (now with just the quarter of an inch pin sticking out) line up the first pin with the hole in the railway track and tap it flush, then tap with a half lenth of carrier pin, then with a full length pin. It works great! And my entire garage floor is covered with pins and links! |

The going rate...
Is minimum 100.00 for 20 links here in Canada.
Thats $1700.00, I simply can't afford that, and what if all the sections that are bought and pieced together are worn different, they'd never mesh with the sprockets. I've got lots of time though, I'm only 32 that should put me done around 50 |

Rob,
I have a set of tracks sitting in the driveway that every link in each, is a replacement link with washer and cotter pin.History repeats itself,(or at least there is someone else as determined as you out there).See you next week. Cliff. P.S. Have you tried an air chisel yet?

Air chizel, and 7/16 track pins
No, I haven't tried the air chisel but I don't have an air compressor big enough to run it anyways, but an upgrade is in the works!
Also, I'm preparing to do the run of repro. 7/16th original size hardened pins by popular demand. Is there anyone else out there needing some? Message me if you do. Thanks Cliff, Good info! |

Look in BC
Rob,
There is a nice track set for you in BC. The poor old U'Carrier has very little else left on this machine, but the track does look nice. The start bid price on this will attract few bids, so you could pick it up - but not cheap. Stewart http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=2418905656 |

UC or T16?????
I may be wrong but that looks like a t16 with the straight 6 and chev rear end, reason being I thought Chevy didn't have much to do with the carriers in Canada. Price is a little high for me though.

Not enough boogers on this beast to be a T16...four as compared to three on the UC..... Probably an Eaton two speed axel and GM engine...
