A good number of years ago at the Duxford military day this supurb Humber 8cwt turned up, if memory serves me right i think the owners name was Robin ??????? and during conversation he made a comment that his ambition was to own one of each type on this chassis. I am confident that one of the UK members will know the second name and if that ambition was achieved
cheers

Smile K2 in Poland

The photo was taken in Dunkirk or Calais not in Poland, there is a 1500 Cwt Bedford MW in the left hand side of the photo. I bought the Original off Ebay.

Interesting. I downloaded it from a seller on ebay where it was identified as Poland. However, this seller is notorious for mis-identifying pictures, both as to location and designation. I was leary of the Poland connection, but had no firm info to the contrary. Derek.

That Humber is a "bobby dazzler ". You wonder where a lot of these older restored vehicles end up. The owners age and circumstances change .. family pressures and such. I read somewhere that the UK scene has changed recently , not so many of the regulars from the 1970's turn up to events . The hobby is growing here ...but mostly newcomers .. the older ones are dying off or have health problems and they don't get out . I've noticed here a trend, more restored vehicles being trailered to events , rather than driven.. probably reflects the state of our roads here ,BUSY and hectic , no place for a 40 mph green snail.

My country, Czech Rep, is smaller then UK but we driven all MV on all events. Come and see it in action.
It is nice when the journey take 5 hours with my K30, usuely with my Piccaso only 2 hours.

But I understand, when somebody us the trailer. I have big problems with spare parts and after then repaire my lorry.

Ambulance rear doors -
All the period photos, except perhaps post #34, seem to suggest that the inside of ambulance rear doors were painted same colour as outside and that the rest of the inside was white/cream - have some of the restorers got this wrong?

Radeks photo of the pile of scrap vehicles makes one stop and think, today they call us a wasteful and throw away world but many of those in that picture look as if they would have done further service or at least a supply of spares so little has changed in 60 odd years. I know we have heard many times of the massive glut of military equipment in the late 1940s but with the British economy being in a almost collapse situation at the time one would have expected a little more thought could have been shown but what a restorers dream to find that pile now
just a thought
cheers

Cliff,
I may be wrong , but it looks like a Morris Y 14 hp model . The Standard had a more rounded grill .

Mike looking at Barts bible it was a toss up between the Standard and Morris. The Standard photo showed the same body and tyre on the roof whereas the morris did not have the roof mounted tyre and had a different body on it.

Default Medical Vehicles

Cliff sorry to disagree but it is a MORRIS Y; one is illustrated on page 11 of Harry Edwards "Morris Commercial Vehicles". The Morris Y as illustrated carrying the body of the Duke of Kent after he was killed in the Sunderland Flying boat accident became the most common RAF Home service domestic ambulance. They also served on ARP duties manned by various voluntary groups accross the UK. The attached is post D Day ; the lineup of ambulances including a Austin K2 belonging to the War organisation of St Johns & The British Red Cross are awaiting the arrival of a casualty carrying Dakota.

Ted never be sorry to correct a mistake as I am always ready to be corrected especially on things like this. As I said in my last post it was a toss up between the two based on my interpritation of the photos in Bart's book.

Default Medical vehicles

I bet not many of you apart of Radek have seen this one before. This car is owned by a friend of mine Vilem Fencl who saved it from a scrap few years ago. It is 1940 International Harvester D15M made in USA. It has got a very interesting history. In 1941 there were two of these ambulances donated to Czechoslovak Brigade Group in the UK by Czechoslovak countrymen living in the USA. One was equiped as a Dentists surgery and one as a Surgical ambulance. Only one survived and recently underwent complex restoration. The period photos are from ceremonial handover in Leamington Spa.You can see Czechoslovak soldier proudly standing beside the vans. Another picture shows some of them reading brass plate bolted on the side which says the following:
Donated by:
NARODNI SVAZ CESKYCH KATOLIKU V AMERICE
(stands for National Assosiation of Czech Catholics in America)

FEDERATION OF
AMERICAN CZECHOSLOVAKS
OF TEXAS

SPONSORED BY
CZECH-AMERICAN NATIONAL ALLIANCE
OF AMERICA

The last two pictures show its current state.

Les,

Just to put things in a little perspective, the picture of that pile of British trucks was taken in the mid-1950s in Germany.

Would not mind having that pile in my backyard, though!

Cheers,
Hanno
