Hi everyone. Looking for a copy of "Formation Signs & Vehicle Markings of the Australian Army 1903 - 1983". I know it's out of print and I also know it's available on CD but I want to try and get the good old fashioned turn the pages book. Any leads would be welcome. cheers Dave.

Thanks Matt, I really need to wade through the references but in short I am trying to obtain the correct formation, unit and sub unit signs for any of the first artillary units that had both 25 lbr s and studebaker trucks operating together. I am hopefull that A Battery used them in Malaya.. I should stick to my German stuff, I can find all I need on their various signs etc but it's a little more difficult with our own without a difinitive reference. cheers Dave

Dave, one of the problems you might run into is in some cases Field Arty Units lost their tractors on return from the Middle East and retraining in North Qld. [ mainly the No3 Marmons ] and were supplied tow vehicles from the Motor Pool, some pics show 2 X 25Pr,s behind one 6X6, and units in N-G using Jeeps and Dozers. The book is pretty rare from what I gather.

Hi Bob, Pool vehicles are always going to throw us off the scent ( even with todays practices) Being an old military man I get a tad anal about things being correctly represented. I know ( through AWM photos) that GMC's were used by our military to tow 25's in Korea and Malaya but I can't find any reference to studebakers being used. I would have thought that A Battery might have used them back in Australia during the late 50's /early 60's. As you may "de-duce" I want to tow a 25 behind a studebaker but want it to represent an actual unit. cheers Dave
