Default CMP in Finnish scrapyard?

Hi

Heard via my site forum about a yard that is selling off all its contents in Finland, quite a few old cars etc but I did notice something that looks a bit like a CMP amongst a pile of junk. May only have some parts on it, but thought I'd mention it here.

CMP

Default Chev CMP

Certainly looks like a Chev with a modified cab.

What an incredible treasure trove of automobile history.

I have seen a lot of junkyards in my time but never one like this.

The sheer variety of countries, yes even continents represented is mind boggling, especially considering the age of the vehicles which are pre global trade era items.

Just looking at vehicles from my own country it is like an encyclopedia of "orphan" American makes. I am sure I missed some in my excitement but I can name Hudson, Nash, American Bantam, Studebaker, Kaiser, Willys, Packard and Desoto for example. Also similar vehicles from Germany and France. Borgward and Panhard come to mind here.

I wish I had the money to buy the whole yard and my retirement would be secure selling off the parts. Did you see the pristine instrument panels and complete engines??? Sweet Jesus if I may say so.

Anyway, here is another view of the seemingly only CMP in the collection.
Bill

I agree with Bill. I am stunned by the variety of vehicles. There is even a rare Austrian Steyr-Puch 500DL, which might be worth saving. (and a Fiat Multipla)
Who knows what parts maybe found in the yard..

Here is a set of jeeps:

Well, anyone going to pick up the Chev?

Bill,

From other photos seen, it looks to be an Aircraft Starter version for jet engines, used by Swedish Air Force.

I think you are correct, Richard.
Somewhere I have a photo and will post it if I find it.

G'day All, I do have that pic PA180119 and also saw the broken Volvo badge, so I knew it was a Volvo but the type well that was beyond me completley, just a curio question as I like Volvo Sugga's (not that I could afford to get one from anywhere) but how many of them were made and in what periods sorry to hijack the thread in this way anyway cheers Dennis

Dennis,

If you have Bart Vanderveen's post war mv directory, the Volvo a/craft starter is shown in the Sweden section.

Here's a link to another surviving Chevrolet in Finland. It is in far better condition and looks like it's on display in a museum.

Note "UNRRA" on the door.
