Stuart, years ago I made a beautiful anvil from a section of CNR track.
My father, being a toolmaker, was able to take it into work, cut one end in a taper and mill it flat for me. It has come in handy on many ocassions. The funny part was, I was looking around for a section the same as you are and I ended up finding it at a flea market. The price was right, but obviously with a reason. I ended up hauling a 80# piece of iron several hundred meters through a crowded market before almost dying by the time I reached the parking lot... I can check around for you as I have a couple contacts with the ONR here in North Bay.

Stuart,
I am not too local, near Whitby, Ontario, but I have 600 feet of rail. You are very welcome to cut off a piece to make your "anvil". |
