Lovat's Scouts

Not a Pure MV quest, though Cyclists are involved.

Further family research on my Dad's side of the family, has confirmed he had an Uncle in Scotland who served in the Great War. The Service Record Summary shows enlistment in 1915 into the Q.O.C.H. (which now explains my Dad's enlistment into the Q.O.C.H. of C. in World War Two), a brief transfer to the Gloucesteshire Regiment, and then back to the Q.O.C.H., where he remained until discharge in 1920.

The Detailed Service Record is a lot fuzzier. It shows initial enlistment into the 2/1st Lovat's Scouts, spent about a year in England, a year in Salernica, transferred for 3 month's to France with the Glouc. Reg't, leave back home and back to the Q.O.C.H.

On checking the Internet, it suggest's the 2/1st Lovat's Scouts were part of the Q.O.C.H during World War One, yet the Lovat's Scouts had their own Cap Badge. The whole uniform thing for the Lovat's Scouts looks vague. Apart from their use of the Ghillie Suit, it is unclear if they had a distinct kit, or wore the same uniform as the Q.O.C.H. Wouldn't mind tracking down a Cap Badge, if I know which one is correct.

The person in the photo is a relative who joined the 1st Lovat Scouts Yeomanry in 1912. This is probably his original uniform when attested to "B" Co. raised in Lochmaddy, North Uist, Scotland. Closeup looks like the stags head badge.

Wikipedia says the Lovats joined with the Scottish Horse in 1916 to form 10th Batt. Q.O.C.H.
