Default WANTED: UC No2MkII* speedo driven gear

Hello All,

I'm after the speedo driven gear with housing. These parts are missing from my Carrier so I have no working speedometer. Anybody got these for sale?
Thank you in advance.

Best Regards,
Marc van Aalderen

Hello Dirk,

So you're back from your trip to Canada. The housing in your picture is not the one I'm looking for. I just need the driven gear and the housing that holds the gear in the housing you show. It is also threaded on the top to attach the speedo cable too. I have no parts book at hand but will post a picture as soon as possible. Thank you anyway for replying. Will give you a call later this week.

Cheers,
Marc

Marc are you refering to the brass adapter which screws into the hole on the cast peice that dirk showed you ? if so if you promise to give me it back i will lend you mine as a pattern to get one turned on a lathe...would not be a hard job for a capable person ?

Default Angle drive gear

Hi Marc,
If you mean the angle drive gear that clamps onto the speedometer then I have NOS ones in stock. Send me a PM.
This a cast fitting that the speedometer cable threads onto so you can attach the speedo cable to the speedometer. There must be properly greased and turn freely or the speedometer cable flexible shaft will break. This angle drive for Mk1 and M11 speedometers is diffrent than the T16 Carrier angle drive.

Heres the pics. Dirk your housing is interesting. It appears to have a seal in it. I havent seen one like that. My one has a "W" cast in it. Is that Windsor?
The speedo drive bits have all the faults.

Hi Brian,

I didn't know that that is something I'm also missing. It does make sense as the space in the Dash is very limited so no room for the speedo cable to make a big radius bend. PM sent. Thank you.

Cheers, Marc

Default Driven gear with housing

Hi Lynn and Richard,

You were both looking at the correct parts. I tried to find a picture of these parts in both workshop manual and Mk1* parts catalogue but there is absolutely nothing in either book. Then I looked in the later parts catalogue for Mk1* AND MkII*. This uses the same plate as the Mk1* parts catalogue but with the two items I need added! It shows the gear CTL2216 and housing CTL 2510 B2. So Richard, you were right there. !! Lynn's left picture says it all, they probably fail often...

Lynn or Richard, if nobody has NOS or used good parts for me can I borrow one of each part from either of you to have them made? I will off course return them after reproducing them.

BTW, Lynn the seal is also shown. Part number C01UC105387

Cheers,
Marc

That's right Lynn, the Loyd Carrier have used the same gearbox
coupling, including the hard to find parts: Spindel & Coupling Gear.

Marc can you Pm / email me your address please, i have managed to get the spindle off without damaging anything. the parts i am sending are CTL2216 and drive spindle

Please bear in mind iam taking a risk posting a rare item to someone i have never met or spoken to for that matter, given recent issues surrounding a bren gun (nothing to do with us) lets show folk on MLU that people can be trusted here, and i look forward to recieving the goods back undamaged

(above a really posh way to say...i better get these bits back buddy )

cheers

Richie

PS you may find a few folk will want one of these so if your contact can make a few we could help folk further afield...i know Big Mike was after one of these not so long ago, plus those who have them but are worn / damaged

Default Richard,

PM sent with my address.

You don't have to worry about your speedo parts. They will be in safe hands and will absolutely be returned to you in the same condition as received.
I also read the posts regarding the Bren gun sale and was quite shocked that a fellow MLU member did not take his responsibility and make good with the duped buyer.

I will take the parts to several shops and ask for a quote for a reasonable quantity of each item. So far just one other member emailed that he would like a set if the price is fair. The more I can have made and sell on right away the cheaper they will become. I'm not looking for profit and will sell the items on at cost. This will only be for the people who respond now. If I have to stock them for a couple of years the price will go up a bit. I think that is fair.

Cheers,

Default Quote on reproducing speedo parts.

Hello Chaps,

Received the first quote on the speedo drive gear and adapter. This company can produce the adapter at € 80 and the driven gear at € 90 plus 19% VAT or Sales Tax. The gear will be hardened to 58-60 Rockwell.

I find this a reasonable quote. There is a lot of machining necessary to reproduce these parts. I don't expect lower quotes from the other two companies I asked.

Everybody who sent me a PM will receive an answer. Should there be more persons interested in these parts then now is the time to come forward.

Please see the attached quote, it's in Dutch. UC Speedo Drive Quote.pdf

Cheers,
