Default Unit Serial number request

I'm wondering if someone with access to the 1944/45 canadian Army lists of Unit Serial numbers (the /1 numbers)
could help me with the number assigned to the LAD attached to the 7th Recce regt. In the 3rd Div. I believe it was the 62nd but may be wrong

The unit used 41 over the RCEME background as a unit sign but I can't find a reference for the unit serial. See the attached pic of the GPA from the unit as ref.

Any help would be great my appreciated.

Thnx

Jason - Serial No. 4045, 2nd-62nd Light Aid Detachment (Type A), RCEME, was the light aid detachment that was attached to the 2nd-7th Canadian Reconnaissance Regiment of the 3rd Canadian Infantry Division, Canadian Army Occupation Force. Your photo was taken at Weener, Germany, on 13 February 1946. (Source: Library and Archives Canada/PA-167682). The 3-ton belongs to the 2nd-7th Canadian Reconnaissance Regiment, and the ‘beep’ belongs to the 2nd-62nd Light Aid Detachment (Type A), RCEME.

Cheers

Thanks Mark!

By chance do you know when this serial came into use? I know they changed many of them late In the war.

It's interesting to know that the pic is actually postwar!

I'm looking for markings for a Jeep that is representing the late 44-45 period so just want to make certain I use the correct serial.

Thanks again for your help!

J

Default Re: Unit Serial Number - 62 LAD

Jason - for the late 44-45 period, you’re looking for Serial No. 680, No. 62 Light Aid Detachment (Type A), RCEME, which was the light aid detachment attached to Serial No. 1102, 7th Canadian Reconnaissance Regiment (17th Duke of York’s Royal Canadian Hussars), CAC, the divisional reconnaissance regiment of the 3rd Canadian Infantry Division.

As for jeep markings for No. 62 Light Aid Detachment, the Arm of Service serial number they used was ‘41' centrally located on a RCEME coloured background. The formation sign used, was that of the 3rd Canadian Infantry Division. Their ‘Unit Mobilization Serial Number,’ if applied to a jeep would appear as ‘680/1.’

More information on the use of a ‘Unit Mobilization Serial Number’ on vehicles can be found here: https://servicepub.wordpress.com/201...rseas-1943-45/

and the use of them on a unit’s kit/baggage/stores can be found here: https://servicepub.wordpress.com/201...rseas-1943-45/

Also, the unit serial number of ‘680’ was allocated to No. 62 Light Aid Detachment upon their embodiment, which was effective 12 February 1941, and remained such, until they were disbanded effective 15 July 1945.

Cheers
