Default Unknowed truck

Hello

Each year in NORTH of FRANCE we have a military vehicles concentration with some year ago near 600 vehicles (LE PAS DE CALAIS LIBERE). These year due to CORONAVIRUS only a little 100 where present. Among the truck there was this civilian truck and some body told us that it was a MORRIS COMMERCIAL that could be seen in the film about DUNKERKE.
Truly, was this truck used by british army and what is it's mark?

Thank for any answer

Hi Serge
It is a Morris Commercial CVS 11/40, they were built from 1937 to 1939. After the war in late 40's a model with a similar cab was introduced.

Serge,

I was wondering the same thing! I was there as well a week ago......it was good to visit an MV event for the first time in months, even though it involved walking around with a mouth mask all day!
Indeed sad that the Covid situation meant that there were far less vehicles and that the whole UK bunch had to cancel, due to the recent 14day quarantine rule.

When seeing the truck at the show I recognized the somewhat rough state and flat green colour....and indeed Richard identified the truck some years ago on HMVF when the filming of Dunkirk was still in progress.

Was this type used officially by the British army? or only as an impressed vehicle?

Hi Alex,
You have a better memory than me, I could not recollect seeing this before, not mentioning it! It brought back memories of one of these belonging to a farmer in the Sussex village where I lived in the 1950's.
They were used by the British Army, although a standard civilian model. Look at Bart's pre-war directory, Army Vehicles to 1940.

I am sure my girlfriend would disagree

IMHO it will look better without front bumper at all than with this one!

Default An other rare truck

Hello

I take advantage of the huge knowledge of RICHARD to ask you an other question.
In the book of BART VANDERVEEN, we see in page 164 and 171 pic of DODGE KEW D80; one in 4X2 configuration and the other in 6X4 configuration. Since a long time I am interessed by this british trucks (more than 50 years) I have never seen these trucks in meeting or in pic of WWII.
In relation with the MORRIS COMERCIAL CV We can see the same wheels , similar hood and other parts. Were this truck assembled in the same factory?

Hi Serge,
I guess you've had in mind pictures of those Kews in military use, have two:

IMHO the wheels of D80 and Morris CV are very similar indeed, if we're talking about the Dodge 8 hole/8 stud wheel, because there were also 8 hole/5 stud ones, as on the airfield controller above.
Cheers!

Wheels were usually made by an outside supplier such as Sankey, Dunlop, etc and to a standard type, so don't read too much into Morris and Dodge having similar wheels.
